Business Development Lead

We are aiming to grow our presence across Southern Africa and we need inspirational, high-energy leaders to drive our growth and develop commercial opportunities. This will be an opportunity to work with industry leaders and contribute directly to the fourth industrial revolution You will be at the forefront of an emerging industry, working with a broad variety of stakeholders to define if and how UAVs should integrate into a variety of industries. This role will include a range of cross-functional activities that can be broadly divided into three categories - Research & Strategy, Partnerships & Business Development, and Project Management.
**Research & Strategy**
- Conduct competitive analyses to demonstrate how we compare to other solutions being considered.
- In addition, you will lead the development of all collateral with support from other team members.
**Partnerships & Business Development**
- Pipeline Management: Develop and manage relationships with a network of government, NGO and private sector leaders. This will include lead generation, setting up preliminary client meetings, rapidly qualifying leads, conducting client follow-ups, and overseeing their successful progression through our sales pipeline.
- Develop well-researched proposals including pricing, competitive landscape analysis, sample flight paths and customer ROI.
- Take a lead role in the development of proposals (including tender responses, unsolicited proposals, etc) and presentations to create and nurture business opportunities and partnerships.
**Project Management**
- Planning and designing the project flow and proactively monitoring its progress, resolving issues, and initiating appropriate corrective action.
- Effectively communicating project requirements to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion by identifying and managing project dependencies and critical paths.
- Ensure coordination across parallel work streams including BD, regulatory and operations.
- Contribute at company level - company quarterly plans, strategic plans, business, and process development.
**Requirements**:
- You have experience selling technology to governments and large companies in Southern Africa. Extra points if you have a background in drones, aviation, health logistics, precision agriculture, wildlife management, or aerial infrastructure surveys.
- You have experience in market segmentation, with the ability to identify key focus industries, perform outreach campaigns and market sizing exercises.
- You own and learn from your mistakes, and provide constructive feedback to team members without judgement.
- You are a strong communicator and relationship builder with diverse audiences, from executives to technical experts. You excel in simply explaining complex ideas.
- You have overseen complex transactions from origination through execution.
- You are scrappy and comfortable operating in a lean, resource-limited environment, and enjoy wearing many different hats as we commercialise our service in new contexts.
- You are entrepreneurial and creative. You can identify the most efficient paths forward in highly ambiguous environments with incomplete and conflicting information. You hate to lose.
- Ideally you are based in South Africa.
