About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Oral History Research Specialist to join our team at the Mcgregor Museum. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the preservation and dissemination of the rich cultural heritage of the Northern Cape.

In this role, you will be responsible for conducting and editing oral history interviews from start to completion, including archival research, interviewing, and preparing final interview materials for deposit in our collection. You will also work with our research staff to identify and prioritize oral history topics, themes, and individual interviews related to the Northern Cape.

Main Responsibilities
  • Conduct and edit oral history interviews from start to completion
  • Carry out archival research to support interview content
  • Work with museum research staff to identify and prioritize oral history topics, themes, and individual interviews
  • Prepare final interview materials for deposit in our collection
  • Disseminate interview subject matter via published articles, social media, and other relevant platforms
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in history, anthropology, sociology, or a related field
  • Experience in oral history research and interviewing
  • Strong analytical and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
What We Offer
