Principal Professional Officer - Advocacy &
Regulatory Reform

**Requirements**:

- Relevant Post graduate degree (master’s degree preferable);
- At least seven years’ relevant functional experience required

within a public policy environment;
- Sound knowledge of local government legislation, policies

and procedures;
- Relevant knowledge of public relations or media campaigns;
- Computer literacy in MS office suite

Key Performance Areas
- Development, expansion and coordination of a City-wide

advocacy agenda and issue driving methodology - in

support of municipal service delivery;
- Work with stakeholders in the City in order to define the

official City position in relation to national and provincial

regulations(existing and proposed);
- Draft responses/positions in relation to key advocacy

issues affecting the municipality;
- Engage with intergovernmental forums, various public

and private sector stakeholders, as well as interact with

intergovernmental programmes to drive forward items on

the advocacy agenda;
- Develop and coordinate advocacy campaigns for items on

the advocacy agenda;

of advocacy items, in order to advocate for change in

legislation that might support municipal service delivery;
- Provide strategic advice and counsel on advocacy items

to senior managers, officials, political leaders and to the

Manager Strategic Policy;
- Manage and maintain a repository of advocacy issues,

official City commenting, and information systems

relevant to the Advocacy Tracker as well as the

Strategic Policy Branch’s system of performance

monitoring and evaluation
- Provide strategic support and advice to management

groups on transversal matters.
