**Overall, Purpose of the Job**

A Debt Counsellor plays a pivotal role in providing financial guidance and support to individuals struggling with debt.

This role demands a deep understanding of modern financial practices, digital tools, and a compassionate approach towards clients facing financial distress.

As a Debt Counsellor, you will assess clients' financial situations, provide tailored advice, and assist in the development and implementation of debt management plans.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Client Assessment**:

- Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' financial situations, including income, expenses, debts, and assets.
- Utilize modern financial analysis tools and software to accurately gauge financial standing.

**Debt Management Planning**:

- Develop personalized debt management plans, including budgeting, repayment schedules, and debt consolidation strategies.
- Utilize digital platforms for efficient plan management and client interaction.

**Client Education and Support**:

- Educate clients on financial management, credit use, budgeting, and the implications of debt.
- Provide ongoing support and advice to clients throughout the debt management process.

**Negotiation with Creditors**:

- Negotiate with creditors on behalf of clients to restructure debt obligations, reduce payments, or freeze interest rates.
- Leverage digital communication channels for efficient and effective negotiations.

**Compliance and Documentation**:

- Ensure all debt counselling activities comply with relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records using secure digital systems.

**Stakeholder Engagement**:

- Liaise with financial institutions, legal advisors, and other relevant stakeholders.

Stay abreast of changes in legislation, financial products, and debt management strategies.

**Qualifications**:

- Matric
- Higher Certificate/ Diploma/ Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Counselling, or a related field.
- Certification or accreditation in debt counseling is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in financial software and digital communication tools.

3 - 5 years of experience in financial counseling, debt management, or a related field.

**Skills**:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on empathy and confidentiality.

Ability to adapt to and leverage digital tools and platforms.

High level of financial literacy and proficiency in budgeting and financial planning.
