Introduction

The Small business development consultant will play a crucial role in driving growth and revenue for SMMEs under their portfolio. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting business assessments/diagnostics, conducting research and analysis, identifying and cultivating strategic partnerships, expanding the customer base, and maximising revenue streams. The incumber will coach and mentor SMMEs in their area of expertise while co-ordinating coaching sessions for other coaches in their area of expertise.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Business Assessment/Diagonistics
  • Conduct extensive business assessment/diagnostics on allocated businesses.
  • Identify gaps and determine opportunities for growth
  • Develop and cost the development plan for the business
  • Develop assessment report showing the return on investment for initiatives.
  • Present the assessment report and the development plan to management and clients.
  1. Strategy Development
  • Analyse the current business model and identify opportunities for optimisation
  • Develop a business model where required
  • Analyse the strategic direction of the business
  • Determine business goal and develop strategies to achieve this
  1. Financial Data Analysis

Analyse company commercial data such as  financial reports budgets, sales results and forecasts.  

  1. Market Analysis
  • Conduct comprehensive market research to identify trends, customer needs, and potential opportunities.
  • Develop and implement business development strategies aligned with organisational goals and objectives.
  1. Partnership and Relationship Management:
  • Identify and forge strategic partnerships with potential clients, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients to enhance business opportunities.
  1. Sales and Revenue Generation:
  • Drive revenue growth by identifying new business opportunities and closing deals.
  • Develop and execute sales strategies, including lead generation, prospecting, and conversion.
  1. Provide advisory (coaching)
  • Prove coaching to SMMEs in the development programmes who require support in your areas of expertise.
  1. Collaboration and Leadership:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, and product development, to ensure alignment in business development efforts.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching and guidance to SMMEs
  1. Contract Negotiation and Deal Structuring:
  • Lead negotiations with potential partners and clients to secure favourable terms and agreements.
  • Structure deals to optimise value for both the organisation and its partners.
  1. Project execution
  • Oversee the implementation of approved initiatives.
  • Continuously advise and coach SMMES.
  1. Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Track and analyse key performance metrics related to business development efforts.
  • Generate regular reports for management, highlighting progress, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Monitor SMME Progress and identify further developmental opportunities
Desired Experience & Qualification
    • Bachelor's degree in Business Management or related field.
    • 3 years of experience in small business development or related roles.
    • Proven track record of successfully driving revenue growth.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret market data and trends.
    • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain long-term business relationships.
    • Leadership, coaching and mentoring experience, preferably in a SMME context.
    • Experience in working in/for corporates will be an advantage
    • Ability to work with minimum supervision
    • Ability to function as part of a team.
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and related software.
