Manager - Production Resource Operations

Applications are invited for the above-indicated vacancy within Newzroom Afrika. The incumbent will report to the execuitive: production resource operations.
**Job's purpose**:
The PRO manager is responsible for managing overall operational functions of the production control rooms, post production, MCR and ingest for the group. The manager is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the technical staff for PCR and outside broadcast. The manager will be supported by the supervisor for PCR and ingest as well as the supervisor for MCR and post production. The PRO manager is expected to work closely with other supporting departments and business units, taking responsibility for the on-air product
**Key responsibilities**:
Actively manage and have oversight of the daily PRO operations and day-to-day task aligned to team member’s shift deliverables
Work closely with and communicate with the interdepartmental divisions (ie. news, technical broadcast operations, creative and production) on daily technical and human resource requirements
Oversee and ensure error free operations within the department.
Oversee plotting of camera angles for different shows, selection of shots and providing creative inputs to show producers.
Oversee the post production environment ensuring efficiencies to meet organisational requirements
Coordinate with the editorial team and plan the execution of news bulletins.
Create and document show bible/format for every show.
Act as contact and liaison between engineering and production departments
Ensure timely delivery of news bulletins and making sure none of the paid events are missed.
Ensure readiness for special live broadcasts/news coverage including outside broadcast.
Manage shift rosters ensuring they are in line with organisational requirements
Performance management operational staff under the department on set goals and general output
Drive a high performing culture within the department
On going coaching, mentoring of operational staff
Ensure compliance of all relevant organisational, departmental and divisional guidelines, policies and frameworks
Ensure development, implementation and adherence to all standard operation procedures and operational processes that will ensure that operations are more linear, efficient and cost effective
Attend organisational, managerial, departmental and divisional meetings with internal stakeholders as and when required.
Encourage growth amongst individuals within the divisions for the development and growth of the department
Manage the administrative functions of the department (i.e roster, freelance timesheets and leave)
Periodically reviews shift rosters to ensure they are aligned with the organisational requirements
Analyse production reports to identify trends and gaps that requires attention
Management of the freelance budget
Conduct weekly updates on over-arching divisional operations, issues, changes, challenges and updates that require escalation
**Skills and competencies**:
Degree/diploma in media/journalism
10 years of experience, of which at least four are in managerial/supervisory roles in media/broadcasting organisations.
Proven experience in production as a technical director
Proven experience working on outside broadcastsdegree/diploma in media/journalism

Strong decision-making skills and results driven approach
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word; Excel and PowerPoint)
Excellent organisational skills, interpersonal and management skills with firm knowledge of technical aspects of the department
Time management and ability to work towards prescribed deadlines
Lateral thinking ability with strong problem-solving skills
Have an overall understanding of the television broadcast flows
