We are seeking a VP of Operations and Customer Success to spearhead customer engagement and lead the deployment and operational management of advanced mining technology solutions in South Africa. Based in Johannesburg, this pivotal role requires an experienced leader who excels in managing complex projects, integrating IoT and AI-driven technologies, and overseeing large-scale operations. The ideal candidate will have a solid track record in operational execution, customer success, and the strategic deployment of hardware and software systems across multiple mining sites, with a focus on driving growth and expanding revenue opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategically lead the deployment and operational management of cutting-edge mining technology projects, with a strong focus on hardware (sensors/IoT) and software solutions.
2. Provide leadership and guidance to a team of project/account managers, ensuring high standards in execution, budget adherence, and on-time delivery.
3. Forge and maintain strong relationships with executive-level stakeholders and General Managers across local and regional mining sites to ensure alignment with corporate goals.
4. Develop and implement robust account management strategies to strengthen existing relationships and deliver exceptional service.
5. Develop and implement account expansion strategies that drive market penetration and ensure sustainable growth.
6. Recruit, develop, and lead high-performing local teams and contractors to support project execution and operational success.
7. Drive significant expansion within the current customer base by identifying and leveraging upselling and cross-selling opportunities.
8. Oversee large P&L responsibilities, ensuring optimal financial outcomes for account management activities.
9. Negotiate and oversee contracts with key technology providers and integrators, securing favorable terms and establishing long-term partnerships.
10. Negotiate and manage contracts, securing long-term benefits and partnerships with both existing and new clients.
Requirements
1. Proven Executive Leadership: Minimum of 15 years of experience in senior leadership roles within the mining or industrial sectors, focusing on operations, large-scale technology deployment, and customer success.
2. Operational Expertise: Demonstrated success in leading complex, multi-million-dollar technology rollouts, particularly in IoT and AI-driven solutions, with a focus on driving operational efficiencies and ensuring long-term customer success.
3. P&L Mastery: Strong track record of managing significant P&L portfolios, achieving financial targets, and ensuring the operational viability of large-scale projects.
4. Growth-Oriented: Experience developing and executing land-and-expand strategies, identifying new growth opportunities within existing accounts, and driving substantial revenue growth through operational initiatives.
5. Mining Industry Expertise: Deep understanding of the South African and broader African mining landscape, with proven experience navigating operational challenges and opportunities in the sector.
6. Advanced Academic Background: An advanced degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business, or a related field; an MBA is highly preferred.

4. Collaborative Leadership: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work seamlessly across teams, influence internal and external stakeholders, and drive collaborative success at the highest levels.
