Postdoctoral Research Fellowship: Statistical Insights

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join our team at the University of Fort Hare. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic research environment focused on addressing significant health issues in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Research Focus: The postdoctoral research fellow will work on projects related to the application of data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence algorithms to improve personalized treatment for patients with communicable and non-communicable diseases in Africa. Other research areas may include the response of critical diseases in Africa to climate and environmental changes, and the use of causal modeling and structural equation modeling to understand the interconnections between personal characteristics, environmental changes, and diseases.
Selection Criteria: To be considered for this position, applicants must have a doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Applied Statistics, or a related field obtained within the last 5 years. Strong quantitative and qualitative data collection and analytical skills are essential. The successful candidate will be a South African, permanent resident, or international, and will be required to be based at the University of Fort Hare's Alice Campus for the duration of the fellowship.
Value and Tenure: The fellowship is valued at R300 000 per year (non-taxable) and is valid for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year based on excellent performance and availability of funds.
Conditions of Award: The applicant must be ready to publish a minimum of 2 units in DHET-accredited journals based on the current project and present at conferences. The successful applicant will be required to be based at the University of Fort Hare's Alice Campus for the duration of the fellowship or as agreed by the host.
