MRF Operations Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced MRF Operations Assistant to join our team at Wasteplan. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) by managing personnel, equipment, procedures, and policies.
Key ResponsibilitiesStaff Management- Manage the onboarding process for new staff, including taking on sheets, induction, and issue of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Manage staff numbers in relation to production demands.
- Manage staff needs and placements within the MRF.
- Assist in the regular assessment of senior MRF staff.
- Support the MRF Manager in coaching, counseling, and appraising job results and developing personal growth opportunities.
- Ensure the execution of all disciplinary actions, occupational health and safety (OHS) policies, and procedures.
- Implement and supervise daily task planning for staff members at the MRF, recommend shifts, and revise schedules as needed.
- Assist in resolving personnel problems by analyzing information, investigating issues, identifying solutions, and recommending action.
- Hold a legal appointment as a General Manager Representative (GMR) 2(7).
- Ensure all legal appointments are properly in place with correct training.
- Liaise with the SHEQ Manager.
- Manage the delegated responsible person for the implementation of permit-to-work (PTW) and lock-out systems.
- Ensure good housekeeping standards are maintained within the MRF.
- Ensure all operators are properly trained and hold valid certificates.
- Report all incidents, spills, and near misses to the MRF Manager and SHEQ Manager.
- Ensure planned job observations on operators are carried out by supervisors.
- Assist in all investigations (incident of duty, accidents, and environmental incidents).
- Prepare daily reports, including attendance registers, shift reports, production graphs, and PM checks.
- Prepare weekly reports, including staff leave, incident of duty (IOD), operational feedback, production, PM checks, and weekly operational meetings.
- Prepare monthly reports.
- Ensure all staff members work as productively as possible.
- Implement and supervise the workflow, reporting procedures, and systems.
- Identify cost reductions to enhance profitability.
- Coordinate and enforce systems, policies, procedures, and discipline.
- Ensure a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources.
- Organize training on different products, code of conduct, health, safety, environmental, and standard procedures and policies.
- Provide manufacturing information by compiling, initiating, sorting, and analyzing production performance records and data, answering questions, and responding to requests.
- Chair weekly operations meetings in the absence of the MRF Manager.
- Ensure PM checks are carried out and data captured.
- Ensure preventative maintenance is carried out.
- Ensure a maintenance diary is kept up to date.
- Supervise the repair of breakdowns.
- Maintain a healthy communication relationship with workers' committees.
- Negotiate and liaise with the finance department, senior management, and suppliers as required.
- Monitor stock levels of consumables and place orders.
- Order materials and equipment.
- Liaise with suppliers, executive, and finance departments.
