Nelson Mandela University is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to lead the Health Sciences Department as Academic Clinical Head of Department Joint Appointment. This is a unique opportunity to join our team and contribute to the development of innovative health sciences education models.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and execute strategic plans for the Department, ensuring alignment with the University's mission and vision.
- Provide academic, clinical, and administrative leadership to the Department, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.
- Lead curriculum and program development, working closely with the medical education unit and contributing to the core functions of the University.
- Oversee research initiatives, including research supervision and community engagement, promoting excellence in health sciences research.
- Teach and train students and junior colleagues across all levels, coordinating assessments and evaluations.
- Participate in interprofessional education and collaboration, promoting a comprehensive approach to health sciences education.
- Manage human resources, ensuring optimal skills and competencies among staff, including sessional medical practitioners.
- Oversee financial, physical, and other resources, ensuring effective management and allocation.
- Enhance the Mission and Vision of the Faculty and University, ensuring transformation initiatives are met.
- Contribute to strengthening the clinical health services platform, addressing regional and national health challenges.
- Expert knowledge, clinical, and research skills in the relevant discipline.
- Extensive experience in facilitating learning and teaching.
- Comprehensive managerial and leadership skills and competencies to head an academic Department.
- Problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-management proficiency.
- Ability to work under stress and maintain a good working relationship at all times.
- Strong people management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to work in a team.
- Sound knowledge of Human Resource Management, including disciplinary and grievance management procedures.
- Thorough understanding of financial management and resource allocation and optimization, including budgeting and expenditure control.
- MBChB degree.
- Qualification allowing for registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist or a recognized Medical Sub-specialty in the relevant discipline.
- PhD in the relevant discipline or related health discipline (advantageous).
- Registered with the HPCSA as an Independent Practitioner.
