Job Title: Associate Professor: Library and Information ScienceJob Summary:

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Associate Professor to join our team in the Library and Information Science department. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing academic leadership, teaching, and research in the field of Library and Information Science.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide academic leadership in research, curriculum design, and implementation.
  • Plan, organize, and manage teaching and research programs.
  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Library and Information Science.
  • Meet Senate-approved research publication requirements for the academic rank of Associate Professor.
  • Secure external research grants and establish research programs.
  • Supervise all levels of postgraduate students and host postdoctoral fellows.
  • Establish institutional, national, and international collaborations and partnerships.
  • Provide academic leadership and contribute to mentorship of academic staff.
  • Participate in community engagement integrated with teaching and/or research.
  • Contribute to University service and participate in administrative duties at departmental, faculty, and university levels.
Requirements:
  • A relevant Doctoral Degree.
  • At least 7 years of experience in higher education.
  • Extensive undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research experience in the area of Library and Information Science.
  • A track record of international and national accredited research publications commensurate with the academic rank of Associate Professor.
  • Postgraduate supervision experience, including successful Doctoral supervision commensurate with the academic rank of Associate Professor.

  • Qualification/courses in higher education teaching and learning.
  • Evidence of successful national and international fundraising for research.
  • Some standing as a scholar in a chosen area of research (e.g., NRF rating, international keynote addresses/plenary lectures).
  • Evidence of academic leadership and mentorship of early career academics.
  • Evidence of successfully hosting postdoctoral research fellows.
  • Evidence of national and international collaboration.
  • Evidence of community engagement integrated with teaching, learning, or research.
