Academic Clinical Head Joint Appointment Health Sciences Perioperative Care Anaesthetics

Nelson Mandela University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced academic clinical leader to join our team as the Head of the Department of Health Sciences Perioperative Care Anaesthetics. This is a joint appointment with the Eastern Cape Department of Health, requiring a strong academic and clinical background.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute strategic plans for the Department, ensuring alignment with the University's goals and objectives.
- Provide academic, clinical, and administrative leadership to the Department, including curriculum development, research supervision, and community engagement.
- Lead research initiatives, including research supervision and publication, and contribute to the development of research proposals.
- Teach and train students and junior colleagues at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including coordination and assessment.
- Manage human resources, including sessional medical practitioners, and ensure optimal skills and competencies within the Department.
- Manage financial, physical, and other resources within the Department, ensuring effective allocation and optimization.
- Enhance the Mission and Vision of the Faculty and University, ensuring transformation initiatives are met.
- Contribute to the strengthening of the clinical health services platform, focusing on regional and national health challenges.
- MBChB degree and registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist or a recognized Medical Sub-specialty in the relevant discipline.
- PhD in the relevant discipline or related health discipline (advantageous).
- Minimum 5 years' clinical work experience as a Medical Specialist after registration or meeting registerable requirements with the HPCSA.
- Minimum 2 years' work experience in teaching and learning at university level, with evidence of teaching and academic contributions in undergraduate and postgraduate medical programmes.
- Minimum 2 years' managing a clinical unit or a clinical department in the relevant clinical discipline.
- Proven track record of research output, research supervision, and publications.
- Valid driver's license.
