About the Position

The Business Development Manager for Eastern Africa will be responsible for expanding and growing new business, identifying new clients to the Geochemistry Eastern & Southern Africa region, building new long-term client relationships and maintaining existing clients.

As an ambassador for ALS in global markets, the BD Manager ESA will undertake both local and international travel focusing on meaningful interactions through client visits, potential conferences and trade shows.

The successful candidate will be based in ALS Chemex SA Head Office in Johannesburg and will report to Regional Business Development Manager, Sub Saharan Africa.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Research and build relationships with new clients to drive business growth.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technology and industry trends to stay ahead of the competition.
  • Identify opportunities for business expansion and develop strategies to capitalize on them.
  • Present market insights and feedback to management to inform business decisions.
  • Prospect for potential clients and turn leads into increased business.
  • BUILD AND MAINTAIN STRONG CLIENT RELATIONSHIPS THROUGH EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION AND NETWORKING.
  • Participate in sample volume forecasting and budget planning to ensure accurate projections.
  • Develop a structured marketing and client support strategy to drive business results.
  • CLOSE NEW BUSINESS DEALS BY COORDINATING REQUIREMENTS, DEVELOPING AND NEGOTIATING CONTRACTS.
  • Support the tendering process by providing expert advice and guidance.
  • Liaise with the ALS global team to reinforce commercial and operational activities.
  • Attend industry functions and provide feedback on market and creative trends.
  • Identify opportunities for campaigns that will lead to an increase in sales.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, Geology or a related field, with extensive business development experience.
  • At least 10 years' experience in Laboratory processes, management, business development or customer services.
  • Good understanding of commercial factors involved in delivering quality services profitably.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strategic planning/thinking and implementation abilities.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and written, within all levels of ALS and with clients.
  • Advanced network and client relationship building skills.

Estimated Salary: R1,200,000 - R1,800,000 per annum.
