About the Position
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for expanding and growing new business, identifying new clients in the Geochemistry Eastern & Southern Africa region, building new long-term client relationships and maintaining existing ones.

  • Build relationships with new clients through research and networking.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies.
  • Identify business growth opportunities and present them to management.
  • Prospect for potential clients and turn them into increased business.
  • Meet with current and potential clients to grow, leverage, and maintain networks.
  • Participate in sample volume forecasting and budget planning.
  • Effectively build sustainable long-term client relationships.
  • Develop a marketing and client support strategy.
  • Closing new business deals by coordinating requirements, developing and negotiating contracts.
  • Supporting the tendering process.
  • Liaise with the ALS global team to reinforce commercial and operational activities.

Client Retention
Meet existing clients to understand challenges and additional requirements.

  • Work closely with internal colleagues to meet client needs.
  • Arrange and participate in client debriefs.

Reports
Participate in management meetings and submit weekly and monthly data for accuracy.

  • Forecast sales targets and ensure they are met.
  • Compile key business metrics and report to management.

About You
The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or Geology, with extensive Business Development experience in a related field.

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in Laboratory processes, management, business development, or customer services.
  • Good commercial understanding and appreciation of factors involved in delivering quality services profitably.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strategic planning and implementation abilities.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to multitask and meet challenging deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills within all levels of ALS and with clients.
