As a Commercial Underwriting Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining commercial underwriting standards and providing quality client service. Your duties will include:

  • Issuing new policies, renewals, and endorsements on our CIMS3 System, ensuring seamless transactions and customer satisfaction.
  • Preparing new business quotes that meet our clients' needs and expectations.
  • Underwriting in accordance with standards, policies, and procedures, guaranteeing compliance and excellence in every aspect of your work.
  • Supporting our sales team in acquiring and retaining profitable business, driving growth and revenue.
  • Attending to administration and written communication, ensuring all documentation is processed accurately and correctly.
  • Ensuring that all documentation is checked and authorized if necessary, prior to dispatch, maintaining the highest standards of quality and attention to detail.
  • Resolving queries as per company standards, providing timely and effective solutions to our clients.
  • Negotiating renewal terms and preparing renewal documentation, ensuring seamless transitions and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensuring renewal reviews are completed timeously, guaranteeing compliance and excellence in every aspect of your work.
  • Ensuring retentions are calculated, maintaining accurate records and ensuring seamless transactions.
  • Requesting, monitoring, and ensuring survey requirements are met, as per laid-down procedures, ensuring compliance and excellence in every aspect of your work.
  • Correcting unprofitable policies, driving growth and revenue through effective underwriting and risk assessment.
  • Ensuring policies are not overexposed, maintaining accurate records and ensuring seamless transactions.
  • Checking policies before sending to clients, guaranteeing quality and attention to detail in every aspect of your work.
  • Telephone contact with clients when they phone in with queries or amendments/additional covers, providing timely and effective solutions to our clients.
  • Saving all work electronically, maintaining accurate records and ensuring seamless transactions.

We offer a competitive salary of approximately $65,000 per annum, based on the market rate for this position in our location. This figure may vary depending on your experience and qualifications.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Matric, NQF 5 in Short-Term insurance, Regulatory Exam Level 1
  • A minimum of three years relevant commercial experience
  • DOFA confirmation from FSB
  • Cardinal 360 system experience (will be an advantage)
