Academic Leader in Nursing Science

Job Purpose
The purpose of this post is to facilitate the learning process for students in theoretical and practical modules at Nelson Mandela University's Nursing Science Department. The successful candidate will participate in research, contribute to academic and community engagement, and perform core university functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach and supervise students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Supervise postgraduate students, particularly doctoral candidates, and guide them in their research.
- Conduct independent research and publish papers in peer-reviewed journals.
- Lead collaborative research projects within and outside the university.
- Secure research funding and third-stream income.
- Establish a national reputation in the field through collaboration, consultation, and policy involvement.
- Provide leadership within the institution and beyond through consultancy, policy development, or project involvement.
- Mentor novice researchers in the Nursing Department.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must have a PhD in Nursing or a relevant equivalent qualification. They must also be registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a registered nurse and a Nurse Educator. A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in a learning, teaching, and research environment is required. The successful candidate must have a proven track record of research, including postgraduate supervision, and a strong publication record. NRF rating and registration as an assessor and moderator with the SANC are advantageous.
