Medical Aid rate based on principal member only)- To be confirmed- Advert Closing Date- 30/6/2023- Job PurposeReporting directly to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Operations, the Dean is expected to provide sound strategic and operational leadership and management of the Student Affairs portfolio. The incumbent will be expected to create and optimise a learning culture through liaison with elected student bodies, student organisations, and academic and other support services. The Dean will be a key point of contact for students with the University structures, engage regularly with students and serve as the advocate for students to represent their interests.

Under the leadership of the Dean, the Department is expected to provide holistic, high impact and student
- centred capacity development programs and services to maximize students’ potential. The incumbent will further be expected to mitigate barriers to learning; strengthen readiness to learn; and help to create and sustain a safe and healthy CPUT student-centred campus environment and community which inspires a sense of belonging.
- Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience Master's Degree
 At least 10 years of experience in higher education, of which 5 years must be at a management level (e.g., Head of Department, Director, etc) with a track record of managing and leading various student affairs portfolios and programmes.
- Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities- 1. Strategic operational leadership and management of the following student affairs strategic functional areas:
- Student governance and Leadership development Sports, Arts and Culture
- Institutional student accommodation
- Disability
- Campus Health and Wellness
- Student Counselling
- HIV/AIDS Unit
- Campus clinic2. Take responsibility and provide leadership management in a transforming environment including programmes across all spectrums of student affairs.

3. Human resources management under the portfolio

4. To ensure effective management and facilitation of sound internal and external relations

5. Management of resources (human resources, assets, financial resources and others) allocated to the portfolio
- Competencies Extensive experience within higher education environment
 Demonstrable experience in dealing with a complete cycle of student life.
 Demonstrable passion to work with young people.
 Sound people management skills with the ability to inspire and lead staff and students.
 Proven innovative and dynamic leadership qualities.
 Demonstrable financial and strategic management experience or abilities
 Experience in managing change and maintaining sound interpersonal relations.
 Proven level managerial or administrative experience or expertise.
 Ability to operate at the highest level of contacts with the different stakeholder organisation.
 Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain links with internal and external stakeholders.
 Ability to develop and maintain good human relations.
 High commitment with hands-on management disposition
 Sound knowledge of the higher education legislative environment and transformation imperatives
