Isixhosa Language Coordinator and Copy Editor

Duties/Pligte
**Language practice (copywriting, editing, proofreading, translation)**
- Translating texts (English to isiXhosa);
- Editing texts (isiXhosa);
- Writing or adapting isiXhosa copy for institutional communication platforms;
- Performing quality control of translated and edited documents of isiXhosa content;
- Adapting isiXhosa content for various communication platforms in line with the intended audience;
- Dealing with in-house language-related enquiries for isiXhosa as required, in collaboration with the Language Centre;
- Liaising with fellow language practitioners (internally and externally) and professional organisations to stay connected with and informed of developments in the industry;
- Assisting with the development and translation of isiXhosa terminology for institutional communication purposes in collaboration with the Language Centre.

**isiXhosa content coordination**
- Promoting a multilingual 'look and feel¿ for content in accordance with the SU Language Policy and brand guidelines;
- Assisting with optimising workflow of isiXhosa content to ensure that deadlines are met;
- Providing creative input to colleagues with regard to the creation of isiXhosa content (e.g. branding, newsletters, mailers, social media, press releases, website) as needed;
- Assisting with the review of and response to user-generated comments and posts, in collaboration with the social media coordinator;
- Building and maintaining internal relationships with the Language Centre;
- Performing administrative tasks.

**Taalpraktyk (skryf van kopie, redigering, proeflees, vertaling)**
- Vertaal teks (uit Engels na isiXhosa);
- Redigeer teks (isiXhosa);
- Skryf of pas isiXhosa-kopie vir institusionele kommunikasieplatforms aan;
- Toepassing van gehaltebeheer op vertaalde en geredigeerde dokumente met isiXhosa-inhoud;
- Pas isiXhosa-inhoud vir verskillende kommunikasieplatforms in lyn met die teikengehoor aan;
- Hanteer interne taalverwante navrae oor isiXhosa soos vereis in samewerking met die Taalsentrum;
- Skakel met mede-taalpraktisyns (intern en ekstern) en professionele organisasies om in kontak met en op die hoogte van ontwikkelinge in die bedryf te bly;
- Hulpverlening met die ontwikkeling en vertaling van isiXhosa-terminologie vir institusionele kommunikasiedoeleindes in samewerking met die Universiteit se Taalsentrum.

**isiXhosa-inhoudskoördinering**
- Bevorder 'n veeltalige 'voorkoms en indruk¿ vir inhoud in ooreenstemming met die US-taalbeleid en -handelsmerkriglyne;
- Hulpverlening met die optimalisering van die werkvloei van isiXhosa-inhoud om seker te maak dat spertye gehaal word;
- Verskaf kreatiewe insette aan kollegas met betrekking tot die skep van isiXhosa-inhoud (bv. handelsmerkgewing, nuusbriewe, massa-e-posse, sosiale media, persvrystellings, webwerf) soos vereis;
- Hulpverlening met die hersiening van en reaksie op gebruikers se kommentaar en plasings in samewerking met die sosiale media-koördineerder;
- Bou en handhaaf interne betrekkinge met die Taalsentrum;
- Verrig administratiewe take.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- Appropriate postgraduate qualification in translation, language practice or other related fields;
- At least seven years' relevant experience in translation from English to isiXhosa;
- Highly developed organisational skills and the ability to work in a complex academic environment;
- Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and Teams;
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills in isiXhosa;
- Excellent understanding of spoken and written English.
- Toepaslike nagraadse kwalifikasie in vertaling, taalpraktyk of ander verwante velde;
- Minstens sewe jaar toepaslike ervaring in vertaling uit Engels na isiXhosa;
- Hoogs ontwikkelde organisatoriese vaardighede en die vermoë om in 'n komplekse akademiese omgewing te werk;
- Rekenaargeletterdheid in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint en Outlook) en MS Teams;
- Uitstekende interpersoonlike, mondelinge en skriftelike kommunikasievaardighede in isiXhosa;
- Uitstekende begrip van mondelinge en skriftelike Engels.
