Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
**For Senior Lecturer**:A Doctoral degree in African Languages, including applied linguistic research (in some of the sub-fields listed in 'Duties' above), informed by
a selective study of isiXhosa formal and theoretical linguistics (e.g., lexical semantics, morphosyntax and its discourse-pragmatic interfaces);
**For Associate Professor**: A Doctoral degree in African Languages, including applied linguistics (in some of the sub-fields listed in 'Duties' above ), informed by a
selected study of isiXhosa formal and theoretical linguistics (e.g., lexical semantics, morphosyntax and its discourse-pragmatic interfaces) with demonstrated
success in an extensive range of areas of teaching, supervision and research;An outstanding study and career record;-
- Experience as a lecturer at a tertiary institution:- for senior lecturer: several years' lecturing experience in African Languages programmes, including specifically, isiXhosa, at a tertiary institution;-
- for associate professor: several years' lecturing experience in African Languages programmes, including specifically, isiXhosa, at a tertiary institution;-
- Proof of quality research outputs, including:
- for senior lecturer: a growing list of publications in accredited journals;
- for associate professor: An extensive number of accredited publications, and demonstrated proof of international recognition by peers;- Experience in curriculum design at both the undergraduate level, specifically for isiXhosa, and at the postgraduate level, for African languages more generally;-
- Experience of supervision in programmes in African Languages at the postgraduate level, including-
- for senior lecturer, experience in successful supervision of several master's studies, and experience in involvement in (co-)supervision up to successful completionof studies at doctoral level;for associate professor: several master's and doctoral studies successfully supervised as primary supervisor;-
- A demonstrated record of research collaboration networks with colleagues, nationally and internationally;-
- Good administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills, and being prepared to be involved in departmental activities;- An advanced-level communicative competence in isiXhosa.
Recommendation/Aanbeveling
- Demonstrated experience of teaching and research in formal and applied linguistics in other official African languages of South Africa, in addition to isiXhosa;- Demonstrated experience of research on formal and applied linguistics of African Languages in collaboration networks in East, Central and/or West African
countries;Demonstrated experience of funded research projects on formal and applied linguistics of African languages, and participation in national and international
networks and conference presentations;
