Commercial Executive

What will you do?
- Providing commercial and strategic input into Mainstream’s business development strategy in South Africa and Africa in relation to project financing and M&A related activities.
- Structuring financial solutions intended to improve the commercial viability and efficiency of a project, including but not limited to any hedging and / or alternative funding structures / strategies.
- Leading and coordinating the negotiation of any project finance agreements required in achieving Financial Close of a project, necessary to optimize financial returns to Mainstream. These agreements include any financing agreements (including security documents) for senior, subordinated, and / or mezzanine debt, and associated hedging solution agreements.
- Evaluating project risks and bankability, including a sound understanding of risk mitigation solutions (i.e. World Bank PRG, MIGA, etc.) available to South African and African projects.
- Identifying and communicating, on a timely basis, all project barriers and risk, together with the strategies and approaches to overcome those barriers and risks.
- Development of market intelligence as it relates to the energy industry in South Africa and Africa; understand, manage and monitor changes in legislation and regulations affecting the industry, specifically as it relates to financing.
- Providing the financial input necessary for Risk & Investment committee and / or Board approval, including deal structuring & valuation.
- Establishing new relationships and maintaining existing relationships with financial institutions, investors, and advisors.
- Liaising with the Central M&A team on any current of prospective M&A opportunities
What we require?
- Relevant financial qualifications / ability with work experience in corporate finance / project finance / M&A / investment banking / financial services / renewable energy developer of at least 5 years.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Masters Degree in Business Administration or Finance preferred.
- Demonstrated track record of academic excellence including a graduate degree from a leading university.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the African renewable energy sector and stakeholders, including South Africa’s REIPPPP process.
- Experience managing and successfully achieving Financial Close for utility scale renewable energy projects in Africa or internationally.
Ability to analyze and present qualitative & quantitative information for decision making.
- Strong communication, negotiation, relationship management and presentation skills.
- Willingness to work as part of multi-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel both locally and internationally as required.
- Excellent written and spoken English language skills essential.
