The University of the Western Cape has over the past few years steadily become one of the research-led teaching and learning universities in South Africa, with the capacity to produce and advance new knowledge in recognised research strength and the translation of this knowledge through innovation endeavours.

The Researcher will report to the Director: Gender Equity Unit and will be responsible for the following:

- Conceptualize, Plan and Design research work in collaboration with a relevant team
- Cocreate funding opportunities and budgets for research work
- Coordinate a research team for GEU comprised of internal and external stakeholders
- Produce plans, activities and reports for research work
- Contribute critically towards the strategic direction of GEU in the area of research
- Train and mentor students and staff on research related skills, consciousness and capabilities in the areas of gender and sexuality
- Build research capacity for GEU and partners internally and externally i.e students, staff, faculties, departments, institutes, centers of knowledge, civil society, communities, government and other related bodies
- Build strategic research partners to strengthen GEU’s research profile and that of the University on gender and sexuality matters
- Attend relevant research meetings internally and externally on behalf of GEU i.e. local, national, regional and internal fora
- Strengthen collaborations with relevant research institutions internally and externally i.e students, staff, faculties, departments, institutes, centers of knowledge, civil society, communities, government and other related bodies
- Write research concept notes, research findings and reports
- Disseminate research findings internally and externally through relevant spaces i.e students, staff, faculties, departments, institutes, centers of knowledge, civil society, communities, government and other related bodies
- Publish research findings through relevant spaces i.e. accredited journals, books, articles and anthologies inter alia

**Minimum Requirements**

**Minimum Requirements** (Qualification and Experience)
- A minimum Master’s degree in a related field at an NQF leve 9 or an equivalent qualification.
- Proof of having conducted other research.
- Experience with training / teaching.
- 3-5 years’ experience in the field of gender and sexuality research, preferably in a higher education environment or at national level within an organization or research institution.
- Have a publication record (comprising peer reviewed and/or accredited journals, books or book chapters on reputable presses)

**The undermentioned would be an added advantage**:

- A PhD qualification/ being Registered or in a process to completing a PhD
- Knowledge and experience of Research funding instruments
- Management experience
- Appreciation of diversity and inclusion in terms of gender, gender presentation, gender expression, sexualities, race, class, social status, language, age, ethnicity, religion, conscience and belief
- A proven track record of leadership and good people skills
