The Department of Social Work, situated in the Faculty of Community and Health Sciences (CHS), is committed to excellence in Social Work and Community Development education and training, practice and research, and driven by the principles of justice, gender equity, human diversity and citizenship for all. The Department offers the following degree programmes: Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), Bachelor of Community Development (BCD), Masters of Social Work degree, and PhD.
Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Department of Social Work.
- Conduct research and publish in the field of social work-related matters.
- Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision.
- Undertake curriculum development and assessment.
- Undertake community engagement and outreach.
- Provide academic leadership.
- Manage a division in the Department.
- Secure funding or third-stream income.
**Minimum Requirements**
**At the level of Associate Professor**
- A PhD in Social Work.
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning, preferably in the field of social work.
- A track record of quality peer reviewed publications.
- A record of successful postgraduate supervision of masters’ students and experience in supervision of PhD students.
- Evidence of expertise, national standing, and where appropriate, an international presence in the discipline of social work.
- At least five (5) years’ experience in social work practice.
- At least five (5) years’ experience in a higher education institution.
- Evidence of the integration of community engagement and learning and teaching/research.
- Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
**At the level of Senior Lecturer**
- A PhD in Social Work.
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning, preferably in the field of social work.
- At least five years’ experience in social work practice.
- Evidence of a publication record in the discipline.
- Evidence of the integration of community engagement and learning and teaching/research.
- Experienced with postgraduate supervision.
- Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
