Senior Director: Corporate Communication and

Duties/Pligte

  • Leading, facilitating and coordinating communication and marketing strategy development, alignment, and implementation across SU environments;
  • Acting as a spokesperson for Stellenbosch University, when required;
  • Planning, organising and allocating the required resources to ensure the desired outcomes of strategy implementation;
  • Professionally leading and inspiring the Division and its team to produce exceptional results that exceed expectations and compare to bestpractice standards within the Higher Education sector;
  • Enabling the Division by means of introducing appropriate technologies, resources, and professional tools to deliver cuttingedge output;
  • Being familiar with digital channel programmes and strategies, including new emerging technologies in support of message/content delivery measurements, and illustrating competence in communication technology platforms;
  • Compiling an annual divisional budget and managing costs against an approved budget;
  • Managing special institutional publications and communication and marketing projects and/or campaigns, such as the annual integrated report;
  • Supporting institutional change initiatives through effective communication programmes across all communication platforms;
  • Ensuring good governance and compliance through monitoring, measuring, and reporting on divisional performance;
  • Creating and maintaining a conducive work environment by promoting the institutional values and fostering good employee relations, staff wellness and teamwork;
  • Managing employee performance in the respective communication and marketing portfolios, facilitating the skills training of staff, continuously developing the team, and keeping staff abreast of new developments/trends;
  • Representing the University and Division at various SU internal structures, as well as at external forums;
  • Keeping abreast of national and international trends/latest developments within the divisional areas of responsibility;
  • Conducting continuous environmental scanning and risk assessment in the broader Higher Education environment and among stakeholders, which may impact the University's positioning.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

  • Master's degree or equivalent qualification in Communication, Media, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field;
  • At least ten years' management experience, preferably at senior level, in at least one or more of the related disciplines that jointly constitute this role (such as Communication, Media/Journalism, Marketing, and/ or Stakeholder Relations);
  • Proven track record of success in managing a large, diverse team, preferably operating at institutional level or within a complex/corporate environment;
  • Extensive prior experience of liaising with the media;
  • Both strategy development and operational implementation of marketing and/or communication programmes at an institutional/corporate level;
  • Successful implementation of institutional marketing or communication campaigns;
  • A good understanding of communication technology platforms;
  • Proven capacity to provide dynamic and strategic leadership in the areas of responsibility, including strategic planning and implementing abilities, human resource management, the management of change, risk, budgets, and operational plans;
  • Excellent computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);
  • Excellent and professional written, verbal, and digital communication skills;
  • Strong conceptual and analytical capabilities, a keen intellectual ability and insight;
  • Aptitude to function effectively in a multilingual and multicultural environment;
  • Financial management experience;
  • Willingness and availability to work after office hours and on weekends.
