MAIN JOB PURPOSE:The Shopper Marketing Manager is a senior Shopper Marketing role for Nutrition and Ice Cream Southern Africa and will report into the Customer and Strategy Planning Director for Nutrition and Ice Cream Southern Africa.

The role of the Shopper Marketing Manager is to drive shopper-based thought leadership to internal and external stakeholders. This includes the development and execution of shopper marketing plans that are market, category, channel, customer or regionally based.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Be at the forefront of Shopper Marketing Trends through external market analysis and ability to anticipate, foresee current and longterm opportunities.
  • Drive shopper thought leadership that increases, develops and sustains Unilever and Category growth opportunities.
  • Drive Shopper Mission and Shopper/Channel understanding in all plans, drives, activations and innovations that deliver longterm consumer behaviour change, incremental sales and build brand equity.
  • Be a driver of Purpose and Sustainability based opportunities be it people, community, process, point of sale etc.


The Shopper Marketing Manager will work closely with their direct reports, brand team and agencies as well as the Channel and Category, E-Commerce and Research & Development teams.

Other key relationships will be with Customer Business Development team (for Retailer engagement), Unilever Field Sales team (for execution) and Ice Cream Concessionaires (for Business and execution) to effectively deliver drives, activations, innovations and customer collaborations.


JOB SUMMARY / RESPONSIBILITIES**:

  • Lead the development and execution of shopperbased plans that are rooted in shopper, consumer and retailer/channel insights aligned to brand objectives for South Africa and South East Africa markets.
  • Immerse themselves in their category, markets, channel and retailers' strategies while being "shopper obsessed" in order to deliver accelerated growth plans for Unilever, the Category, Channel and Retailer.
  • Develop strong relationships with the marketing departments of key retailers and shopper marketing related suppliers.
  • Adopt, Adapt and implement Global Best Practice of point of sale (POS) material, working in collaboration with Brand teams to deliver best in class POS that delivers value for the retailer, is shopper based and drives incremental sales
  • Ensure "best in class" executional excellence of Shopper Marketing Plans through clear briefs to executional teams.
  • Present quantified/qualified shopper marketing opportunities that drive business decision making choices.
  • Manage Shopper marketing budgets and reconciliation in line with planned spend.
  • Lead rigorous and transparent pre and postevaluation processes of activities aligned to clear KPIs

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 3 years experience in Marketing/Shopper based Management role
  • Working in a complex, dynamic role with multiple stakeholders and business partners
  • Shopper Marketing, Sales, E-Commerce, Big Data or Psychology experience is considered a plus
  • Cross functional experience in account management, shopper marketing and/or trade marketing in a tier one Consumer Goods and Package company
  • Undergraduate degree required. *Marketing and Psychology majors added benefit
