Contract Overview

AOSIS, a leading independent open-access scholarly publisher, is looking for an experienced individual to cover the role of Publisher during Maternity leave. This temporary position is ideal for someone with a solid background in scholarly book publishing, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for driving success in the open-access domain. The role offers hybrid working, where you will ideally spend 1-2 days in the company's office in Durbanville, collaborating with a supportive team.

Key responsibilities
  • Strategic leadership: Develop and implement the company's publishing strategy, leading the teams to achieve high standards and meet deadlines.
  • Title acquisition and development: Oversee the acquisition of new scholarly titles and guide authors through the publication process.
  • Editorial oversight: Ensure top-notch editorial content across all publications and work closely with the production team.
  • Commercial management: Manage the publishing budget and project timelines effectively to maximize the reach of each title.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Build strong relationships with authors, academics, and institutions.
  • Operational management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the publishing department and ensure smooth collaboration.
  • Additional responsibilities: Handle author queries, oversee cover artwork processes, manage contracts, and prepare progress reports to senior management.

Requirements

Qualifications and skills: Applicants should be South African citizens, permanent residents, or have a valid work visa and driving license.
Experience: Proven experience in scholarly publishing, both digital and print, is required.
Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills are essential.
Personal attributes: Passion for academic publishing, strong leadership, attention to detail, and ability to work in a hybrid environment.
