Senior Business Development Manager (BDM) Cape Town and Johannesburg


Our client is looking for a Senior Business Development Manager (BDM) to help grow Africa's leading online music service focused on the mass market.

The company has +20m monthly users across Africa, with Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, and Kenya being main markets, music licensed directly from +150,000 African musicians and 1.7m international songs available through licensing agreements with Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group and Believe Digital.

Our client has experienced rapid growth in recent years, and they are currently a team of 40 full-time staff spread across Africa.

Our client has a focus on 5 African countries and aims to grow to 50,000,000 users before June 2025.

Our client offers millions of songs from Africa and abroad for free download and streaming.


The music can be accessed directly from their website and Android app, including the newest releases, DJ mixes, playlists, podcasts, and music news.

They monetise their platform through advertisement sales as well as telco-bundle subscriptions paid by the end-consumer.

Our client pays the rights owners a revenue split on all revenue generated on the recordings.


The company did an IPO in September 2020 and is listed at Nasdaq First North Growth Markets in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Africa (not limited in terms of reach) ; Core markets currently are Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa

Reporting to:
Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Key Objective:


Drive revenue growth by developing multinational Joint-Business plans for the company and brands that operate across Sub Saharan Africa e.g.

Coke and Unilever.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy for Sub Saharan Africa.

Identify and engage key stakeholders, clients, and partners.

Close deals with large organizations, telecommunications companies, and other potential partners.

Proven experience in business development within the African market.

Qualifications:
Extensive experience in business development with a proven track record of closing deals.

Understanding of the music streaming industry and the African market.

Strong analytical and negotiation skills.

Proven track record of developing strategic partnerships and client acquisition.

Minimum 8 years' experience in selling digital products, sales, and pipeline management.

Thorough understanding of digital marketing and paid media.

Established networks across Africa in the advertising and marketing landscape.

Analytical mindset that seeks to understand client needs and challenges.

Contract Type:
Permanent or Fixed Term contract.

Negotiated in local currency.
