Brief Description
The Sociology Department, based in the School of Social Sciences (Faculty of Humanities) invites applications from suitably qualified individuals for appointment to the position of Administrative Officer. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the efficient organisation and support of the discipline’s academic activities and for providing a professional and courteous service to University academic and administrative staff, students, prospective students, parents and visitors. Main Duties Comprehensive undergraduate and post graduate student administration, including the uploading of exam marks. Financial administration for the department, in accordance with the standing orders as required by the faculty and the university. Assist, support and deputize for the Senior Administrator. S/he must also be able to take accurate minutes of meetings. Essential Requirements: Approximately 3 to 5 Years Work Experience in the University. Administration, with experience in basic financial reporting and the ability to draw financial reports from BI, and academic administration. Matric and Diploma (NQF6) with demonstrated experience in finances.The ability to demonstrate initiative, good public relations skills, excellent organisational ability, as well as capacity to work independently but collegially, meet deadlines and communicate well (written and verbal). Command of full Microsoft Office Suite (Especially Word, Excel and Outlook).Ability to work with Oracle, SIMS, AMS & BIS.Knowledge of University Policies and Procedures (for both finance and academic regulations).Ability to work in a team and with colleagues, students, and external visitors, and at all levels of the organisation.Ability to take accurate minutes of meetings.
