Minimum Qualifications

  • Have NQF 7 (Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Diploma) in IT relevant to the position.

Requirements

  • Be medically fit to work in the specific business area.
  • Have a clear security screening record.
  • Have at least 5 years' experience in an IT cyber security role, at least 3 years in a SOC leadership role.
  • Have a valid driver's license (if applicable).

Advantageous Qualifications

  • GIAC certifications (GCFA, GCIA, GCIH), Offensive Security (OSCP) and Industry certifications (CCISO, CISSP, CISM and CEH)
  • Specialised/professional certification in the field of cyber security

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee incident response lifecycle, ensuring rapid detection, containment, and remediation of security incidents.
  • Lead and manage a team of SOC analysts (L1, L2, L3), incident responders, and vulnerability analysts.
  • Managing SOC personnel, optimising security processes, identifying automation opportunities, and aligning SOC operations with business and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the cybersecurity strategy for ICT, OT, and Industrial Control Systems (ICS).
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of SOC policies, processes, and frameworks based on industry best practices. (NIST, IEC 62443, ISO 27001, MITRE ATT&CK for ICS, CIS Controls)
  • Act as the primary escalation point for high-severity incidents and provide executive briefings.
  • Implement proactive threat hunting programs and ensure alignment with threat intelligence.
  • Work with senior leadership to ensure SOC operations align with business and compliance needs.
  • Conduct regular SOC drills and tabletop exercises for incident preparedness.
  • Ensure that SOC and Vulnerability Management operations align with recognised cybersecurity frameworks—such as NIST, MITRE ATT&CK, ISO/IEC 27001, and CIS Controls—and comply with applicable legislation, including GDPR
  • Contribute to the development strategies for zero-day vulnerability detection and mitigation.
  • Improve SOC playbooks, automation, and incident handling capabilities.
  • Knowledge of ransomware defense, APT detection, and ICSspecific attack vectors in the mining industry.
  • Engage with external partners, Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs), and legal counsel for threat intelligence sharing.
  • Support audit and compliance teams by providing SOC reports and insights.
  • Oversee Vulnerability Management Program to identify, assess, prioritise, and remediate security vulnerabilities.
  • Collaborate with Red and Blue Teams to validate SOC detection capabilities

Additional Requirements

  • Strong experience with SIEM tools (Google SecOps, Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel etc.).
  • Ability to communicate security risks effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure during high-priority incidents.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) and cloud-native security tools.
  • Good to have hands-on experience with forensics and malware analysis tools (Volatility, Autopsy, Cuckoo Sandbox).
  • Expertise in EDR/XDR platforms (Cortex XDR, CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Microsoft Defender ATP).
  • Deep knowledge of network security (Firewalls, IDS/IPS, PCAP analysis, NetFlow).
