The incumbent would be required to assign stories, manage reporters & to do forward planning for the daily news diary as well as sub reporter scripts.

**Co-ordination of Briefs**

Plan daily diary in conjunction with the Editors incl. but not restricted to the Political, News, Business, Sport Editors.

Brief reporters on their stories and angles.

Brief Camera Crew on requirements for the day.

Assist with forward planning diary and attend daily / weekly meetings.

To update editorial teams - brief news meeting and give clear guidance in terms of story movements and expectations.

Contribute toward and oversee live broadcasts and special projects.

Perform quality control checks.

Monitor news wires, social media and other relevant platforms for breaking news.

**Breaking News Major**

Respond timeously to breaking news and developments thereof.

Proper planning and implementation around breaking news and/or major stories and assign or re-assign reporters to cover them.

Proper communication of breaking news and its treatment with the various news divisions.

Set deadlines for reporters.

Keep in contact with reporters to ensure that desk and editorial team are informed about changing developments of stories.

**Management**

Ensure adequate staffing resources are in place.

Ensure the smooth running of the desk and manage this administratively.

Management of shift rosters to fully utilize working hours aligned to company policies and procedures.

Resolving staff conflicts aligned to company disciplinary code. Motivating for training and other development opportunities for reporters.

**Content**

Assist with writing content should the need arise.

Assist with studio crossings should the need arise.

Create and maintain a network of contacts both internally and externally.

**Sub-Editing**

Sub-editing all eNCA content - scripts, graphics, lives, boards and crawlers.

Ensuring content is succinct, factually accurate, contextual, relevant, engaging, conversational, and in line with eNCA’s writing style.

Thoroughly fact check scripts and correct errors, inconsistencies and omissions.

Maintain high standards of spelling and grammar.

Assisting in updating the eNCA style guide.

**Qualifications**

National Senior Certificate - Essential

Advance Diploma in Journalism - Essential

Bachelors Degree in Journalism - Recommended

**Experience**

Journalism - 10 years - Essential
