Planning Manager

Oversees the strategic planning and resource allocation processes within an organization. They ensure projects are completed on time and within budget by collaborating with cross-functional teams, analyzing data, and implementing best practices. With strong analytical and leadership skills, the Planning Manager focuses on optimizing operations, managing risks, and driving continuous improvement to meet the organization's objectives. Responsible for the maintenance of the planning and scheduling control system. Reports deviations and recommends corrective action.
**Skills/ Experience/ Education.**
Minimum Grade 12
Have certification in MS Projects with extensive experience.
Have certification in Primavera P6 with extensive experience.
Knowledge of Project Management Practices and Principles
NEC contract course certification
FIDIC contract course certification
Certification related to Construction Claims
Must have an excellent understanding of the construction environment specifically related to the Petro-Chemical, Mining, Wastewater Treatment and Paper and Pulp Industries.
Must have extended experience in Mechanical, Piping & Structural Steel Fabrication and Erection methodology
Minimum of 18 years’ experience in the Planning Department of which 7 must be in a Managerial position
Strong verbal and written communication proficiency.
Excellent proficiency in mathematics.
Excellent attention to detail.
Must be deadline driven and be prepared to work extended hours when required.
Excellent time management skills are required with the ability to prioritize own workload.
**Responsibilities.**
Actively Implement and oversees the structured planning procedure in accordance with the company Project Planning and Control guidelines which will assist the project team to complete the project within the contractual program requirements.
Is responsible for the compilation of the project planning strategy in conjunction with the Contract Manager and the Planning Manager.
Produces programmes which define all work to be carried out in accordance with company procedures.
Scrutinize and approve all and sub-contractor programmes on a project.
Ensure the compatibility of programmes, regarding key dates, information requirements, lead times, discipline interfaces, etc. including those from suppliers/client with the contract program.
Develop programmes for issue to clients, vendors and sub-contractors to be routed through the Contract Manager for his vetting prior to issue
Monitor the progress against all project programmes at intervals, using measurement criteria, agreed with the Planning Manager and the Contract Manager.
Undertake program analysis to establish (discipline interfaces - critical activities - key dates - resource requirements - client responsibilities)
Continuously evaluate the impact of queries, delays, scope changes etc. on the project program.
Evaluate the impact of deviations from and changes to the program.
Obtain information/commitments regarding work to be performed i.e. activities, duration’s, milestones, key dates, sub-contracts, resources required, etc. from all disciplines and suppliers on the project.
Attend site/sub-contract/contract meetings as agreed with the Contract Manager
Interpret status of and trends on the project and formally report the true status of the project to the Project Team and company management at intervals as agreed with the Contract Manager.
Must produce S-Curves, manpower, progress, extension of time and acceleration reports as per the contract program.
Setup of Panning Structure for site installation,
Assisting Site with planning revisions, Auditing site Planning
Systems and monitoring of weekly site progress in terms of contract required start / completion dates.
Assisting service departments (QC/ HR / Fabrication/ Safety Admin) and Contracts / Site Managers with all interface time requirements and common system information for individual project requirements.
Assist site management with revision and when required acceleration scheduling.
Interface between our clients and main contractors/ site / office base management.
Development of baseline program - Electrical and Instrumentation / Mechanical & Piping
Development of detail program - Electrical and Instrumentation / Mechanical & Piping
Management of Site Project Planners Electrical & Instrumentation / Mechanical & Piping detail program as per Company standard requirements.
Advisement on resources used, budget, forecast Requirements, Monthly reporting to Project Managers and Project Director for all contracts for Projects Status, Delays, Risks, forecast completion, resource status / requirements.
Development of Site on Contract requirements - for Planning / Costing / Claims.
Training of Junior Planners.
Liaise with Estimating Department to assess programme & preliminaries where required.
On secured projects prepare information for handover to the contract team.
Compile final Estimate with required return
