We are seeking a proactive and safety-conscious **Railway Maintenance Supervisor** to oversee the inspection, maintenance, and general upkeep of the railway line and related infrastructure.

**Role Description**:
As a Railway Maintenance Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and operational efficiency of the railway system. This role involves supervising track inspections, coordinating maintenance activities, and implementing preventative measures to minimize disruptions. You will work closely with maintenance crews, external contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with safety and industry standards. This position operates on a 7-day schedule, including weekends and public holidays, with time off provided as needed.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Railway Track Maintenance & Inspection**:

- Conduct and supervise regular inspections of railway tracks, ensuring structural integrity and compliance with safety regulations.
- Identify and address track defects such as wear, misalignment, and ballast issues.
- Oversee rail joint inspections, track fastening systems, and proper drainage conditions.
- Supervise routine maintenance activities, including track cleaning, rail lubrication, and weed control.

**Preventative & Corrective Maintenance**:

- Develop and implement a preventative maintenance schedule to reduce downtime and enhance track longevity.
- Organize repair works for rail track damage, including sleeper replacements, ballast replenishment, and realignment.
- Coordinate emergency repairs in response to track-related incidents.
- Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with safety protocols and operational guidelines.

**Supervision & Coordination**:

- Lead and manage railway maintenance teams, assigning tasks and ensuring efficient workflow.
- Collaborate with contractors and railway engineers to execute maintenance projects.
- Train and mentor maintenance staff on railway safety procedures and inspection techniques.

**Equipment & Workshop Management**:

- Ensure maintenance equipment and tools are in good working condition, properly stored, and regularly inspected.
- Maintain stock control of essential railway maintenance materials and submit requisitions as needed.
- Report damaged tools or equipment and coordinate necessary repairs or replacements.

**Safety & Compliance**:

- Adhere to and enforce railway safety regulations and maintenance best practices.
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, maintenance activities, and incident reports.
- Identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions to enhance railway safety.
- Conduct safety briefings and drills for maintenance staff.

**Qualifications & Requirements**:

- Must reside in the Franschhoek, Paarl, or Stellenbosch area.
- Possession of a valid Code 10 driver’s license.
- Grade 12 qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in railway maintenance or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of railway infrastructure, track components, and maintenance procedures.
- Familiarity with safety regulations governing railway operations.
- Mechanical and electrical certifications are advantageous.
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team, with excellent communication in both English and Afrikaans.
