Job Summary

This role is responsible for the execution of technical-legal duties on behalf of the Trustees of the South African Retirement Annuity Fund (SARAF) or SuperFund Retirement Fund.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and trace dependants/nominees of deceased members.
  • Investigate the personal circumstances of these persons and allocate death benefits under a delegation of decision-making power.
  • Decide on the mode of payment.
  • Comply with the provisions of the Pension Funds Act and the Rules of the Fund.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply various pieces of legislation to sets of facts.
  • Probing skills and ability to interrogate information through professional interviews.
  • Consistent compliant process execution through the exercise of discretion and sound judgment with regards to investigations and allocations of death benefits.
  • Maintain a tight case management audit trail in respect of all duties performed.
  • Consult with legal advisers and the liaison to the Death Claims Sub-committee regarding complex and technical-legal matters.
  • Initiate coding of the death claim on the respective platforms and follow through with the S37C investigation.
Requirements
  • Matriculation Certificate (Matric)
  • Working knowledge of Old Mutual internal systems (Omunet, AWD, Craft, Compass, Chorus, etc.) will be advantageous.
  • At least 3 years' specialization in respect of Section 37C of the Pension Funds Act in terms of:
    • Identification and investigation of dependants and nominees.
    • Recommendation/decision-making in respect of death benefit allocations and mode of payment.
  • Multiple vernacular languages are advantageous.
