We're seeking a seasoned professional to lead our Credit function and drive business growth through strategic leadership and execution.

About the Role

The Regional Head: Credit role is accountable for managing the strategic direction and delivery of the credit requirements for a specific credit segment, product or sector. You'll be responsible for developing and implementing a fit-for-purpose credit strategy and framework, ensuring the bank's competitive position is protected and enhanced while maintaining the quality of the underlying asset book.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a tactical strategy and associated policies and guidelines within multiple practices.
  • Accountable for the credit strategies across the product life cycle: acquisition, authorizations, portfolio credit limit management, re-issues, high risk exposure management, collections and recoveries.
  • Analyze and interpret detailed reports to explain trends, discrepancies and inconsistencies.
  • Represent Relationship Banking and participate in industry and Bank-wide forums and governance structures.
  • Interlock with key stakeholders to obtain commercial awareness of the local market and industry specifics.
  • Develop, maintain and review the appropriate mandate and scale, suitable lending criteria and risk appetites for the allocated portfolio.
  • Drive improved data quality and RWA's as well as Economic Capital and Risk Capital returns.
  • Review quality credit assessments and present bespoke/bankable solutions for high value clients and transactions.
  • Manage and report on the end-to-end credit process within the allocated region.
  • Interlock with Supporting Functions to ensure the appropriate level of delivery to achieve customer needs and revenue generation requirements.
  • Participate in financial planning cycles and provide a view on impairments, expected losses, economic capital and other elements.
  • Direct responsibility for managing impairment and fraud costs and necessary remedial actions.
  • Support the development of credit tracking for tactical plans and credit scoreboards.

About You

  • You hold a Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) qualification or a desired Post Graduate Degree (NQF level no.8+).
  • You have 8 - 10 years' experience in a similar environment, with 3 - 4 years at senior management level.
  • You possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.
