Job Summary:

Deka Minas (Pty) Ltd is seeking an experienced Medical Director to lead our healthcare management team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the quality agenda of medical care and services, managing relationships among physician activities, and providing leadership in aligning physicians and physician services with hospital strategic plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Quality:
    • Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
    • Lead the development of clinical quality agendas, including performance targets and metrics.
    • Chair key medical staff committees to align clinical programs and drive continuous improvement.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including physicians, staff, and patients.
    • Build strong relationships with physicians and other healthcare partners.
    • Develop and maintain a positive and respectful work environment.
  • Staff Development and Supervision:
    • Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing team of medical professionals.
    • Provide ongoing education and mentorship to staff.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Access and Provider Relations:
    • Ensure timely access to medical care and services for patients.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with community physicians and healthcare partners.
    • Participate in marketing efforts to promote hospital services.
  • Provision of Medical Care:
    • Provide expert consultation on complex medical treatment issues.
    • Respectfully communicate with treating physicians on treatment decisions.
    • Ensure patient care visits and assessments are completed in a timely manner.
  • Planning and Reporting:
    • Develop and implement strategic plans for medical services.
    • Provide regular updates to the CEO on departmental performance.
    • Participate in the development of the organization's strategic plan.

Requirements:

  • Medical degree from an accredited university or medical school.
  • Board certification in primary specialty.
  • Current medical license.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in healthcare management, including experience in quality and utilization management.
  • Previous experience with TQM principles preferred.
