Head of Fundraising

An independent, non-profit and technologically innovative organisation is looking for an innovative, mission-driven and experienced fundraiser to fulfil the newly created Head of Fundraising and Brand role. The Head of Fundraising and Brand will be responsible for:
- Developing, leading and aligning the business’ fundraising, marketing, and communications strategies in order to deliver significant growth in the business’ donor base, income raised and brand position,
- Leading the Fundraising and Marketing teams to enable growth through innovation, collaboration, and the highest levels of professionalism,
- As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, contribute to the delivery and development of the overall organisational strategy.
- Maintain and build external relationships and networks to further the business’ strategy and achieve fundraising goals.
The team comprises of young innovators who believe that access to education is one of the most important issues affecting South Africa today. You need to be comfortable with change and have a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude. The business has a hybrid in-office / work from home work-week, and offers flexible work hours, innovative leave policies and great opportunities for learning and training.
**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES, NOT LIMITED TO**:
Fundraising
- Develop and implement an effective, long-term fundraising strategy to grow the financial sustainability of the organisation, within the corporate sector, with individual donors and with local and international trusts and foundations,
- To develop the strategic fundraising priorities and a pipeline of donor prospects. This will include the systematic approach to the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors.
- Lead a highly engaged, target-driven and motivated team
- Create a metric and data-driven fundraising and engagement culture
- Plan, direct, monitor and evaluate all fundraising targets for the fundraising team.
- Ensure that each stream of income defined in the fundraising strategy has a detailed strategic focus area (SFA) and the associated staff are clear about their required SFAs, targets and KPIs.
- Plan, manage, resource, coordinate and review all fundraising programs (including grant submissions, skills development programs, individual giving and bursary management) ensuring accurate analysis and a high ROI
- Set annual income projections in consultation with the CEO and COO, and proactively manage cash flow to ensure accurate short, medium, and long-term projections
- Develop and present informed monthly and quarterly fundraising reports and analysis to the CEO and senior leadership
- Contribute as a senior leader to strategic decision-making, building organisational culture and acting as an ambassador for the organisation
Marketing
- Develop - in partnership with the Marketing manager - marketing activity across all channels and platforms with clear strategic objectives and measurable impact
- Lead the marketing team to continue to grow the community, to inspire action and change through impactful campaigns and communications across multiple channels.
- Ensure strategic alignment of communication plans and campaigns for fundraising, bursary management, brand building, media relations, special events, and crisis communications.
- Increase public and stakeholder engagement through promotion of the business as a thought leader in the tertiary student space.
- Provide strategic guidance for data management techniques and analytics to focus marketing efforts on the highest impact and return on investment.
- Facilitate collaborative ways of working with all areas of the business to enhance and improve the public’s understanding and perception of the business and its priorities.

**REQUIREMENTS**
- Relevant professional qualification (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum seven years’ experience in fundraising and communication, corporate social investment or working within the non-profit sector in social impact capacity.
- Experience in developing strategy and effective budget management to support strategic roadmap
- Minimum three years experience in senior or executive leadership
- An evidence-based fundraising portfolio (R15 million annual income portfolio and above) demonstrating capacity to attract diverse funding, including national and international funding partners
- Exceptional stakeholder relationship management skills
- Proven experience of digital communication/marketing management
- Proven experience in influencing policy, forming strategic partnerships and influencing decision-making at a variety of levels
- Excellent organisational, project, and staff management skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment
