This role reports to the Executive Director. The main purpose of the Head of Institutional Advancement is to support the Executive Director by providing overall direction, leadership, management of the Institutional Advancement team. It is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive proactive cultivation and advancement plan supporting the activities of the Company. To drive and grow the organisations patrons, donors, institutional partnerships, sponsorships, grants, and fundraising activities. This role will also lead and manage, Corporate Funding, Eventing, Marketing and Communication departments.

**BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS**
**Qualifications**
- Business Administration, Business Management, Communications, or a related Degrees is desirable,
- Background in Art and visual culture and familiarity is desirable.

**Requirements**:

- Bilingual in (French and English) would be to an added advantage.
- Work at the office and at times at home
- Willing to travel

**Experience**
- 10 years’ experience working within a Senior role.
- Have a strong background in fundraising and a proven track record of cultivating and soliciting support, private and public
- Experience in Event Management, Communications and Marketing management
- Proven record of accomplishment that demonstrates initiative, creativity, and managerial and interpersonal skills
- An experienced leader of fundraising programs, including annual fund, grant writing, special events, donor travel programs, and project/program funding initiatives.
- A seasoned fundraiser who can formulate an institutional development plan, in collaboration with key stakeholders, whereby diversifying the organization’s sources of income, increasing membership, and bolstering annual support to the museum in Cape Town
- A professional who has experience in and can identify, develop, cultivate, and steward key donor relationships, and foster high-level corporate relationships
- An experienced senior manager who can work locally and internationally to build programs with strategic partners, other arts organizations, museums, public agencies, and foundations

- Strong writing/editing and verbal communication skills with the ability to assimilate detailed information (written and verbal) quickly and easily
- The ability to motivate, lead, influence, and train people successfully
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills
- Strong with all forms of private resource development including annual, capital, planned, giving and events
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills with the willingness to take risks and solve problems creatively
- Strong process management skills, financial operations experience and computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products and other systems
- Good public speaking ability
- Ability to effectively multitask and coordinate a high level of activity under a variety of conditions and constraints and completion within deadlines
- Very strong organizational, project management and time management skills
- Ability to remain calm, collected, and professional in a crisis
- A passion for modern and contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora, and a deep commitment to scholarship, education, and the importance of working for the greater good of the museum, the South African cultural community, and African culture at large

**Knowledge Of**:

- Fundraising knowledge
- Contemporary art funders; enjoy cultivation
- Patronage, sponsorships local and abroad is an added advantage
- Principles of institutional advancement, development, and philanthropy
- Marketing communication practices

Package:
R850k plus per annum with an funding incentive scheme
