**Job Advert Summary**:
Opex Portfolio
- Maintain the Life Solutions BU’s DOA as maintained by Group Procurement ensuring and support the Head: Finance Operations in establishing a robust control environment in line with the Group’s procurement standards. and update all changes occurred to ensure that payments are made on time
- Manage Opex reporting process (and EVRs for Support Functions in particular) ensuring that all month end journals are processed to correct GL accounts and cost centre, accruals are raised appropriately on monthly basis with the full year forecasts updated accordingly.
- Oversight over monthly recoveries by the rest of the Group from Life Solutions including Central Allocations as well as allocation of PFM costs across the Life Solutions departments.
- Oversight over the Life Solutions BU’s recoveries from rest of the Group as well as third parties ensuring that these are settled in line with contracted terms and conditions. Support the Head: Finance Operations in delivering on the Finance Team’s responsibilities as determined by the BU and Group’s Preferential Procurement Forums and as required by the Independent BEE Verification Agency.
- Manage process for payment and accounting of underwriting expenses
- Manage the Life Solutions BU’s capitalisation process as the technical expert to ensure that relevant provisions of accounting standards are applied to the IT and Project Costs, in particular, in line with the Group’s accounting policies.
- Support the Head: Finance Operation in managing the annual budgeting and re-forecasting process for support areas (including Central Allocations as well as allocation of PFM costs across Life Solutions department).
- Support the Head: Finance Operation in ongoing management of opex and ensuring that full year forecasts are updated accordingly as a way of establishing a robust process for determining “bankable” savings.
- Support the Head: Finance Operation in establishing and maintaining robust processes for tracking savings and/or benefits realized from various strategic projects and initiatives.
- Support Head: Finance Operations in providing commentary and insights on opex for the BU as part of the monthly Flash Earnings and FRC processes as well the annual budgeting and reforecasting processes.
Balance Sheet Management
- Maintain the BU’s fixed asset register (including intangible assets) together with the asset leasing process ensuring that the Life Solutions BU is billed only for assets that are utilised by the BU’s staff members.
- Monitoring all BU’s Balance Sheet accounts to ensure effective reconciliations ar performed monthly either by own Team or Finance Teams responsible for the Distribution Functions.
- Alignment of balance sheet accounts across performance cells ensuring consistent use of GL balance sheet accounts ensuring that dormant Balance Sheet account strings are closed.
- Provide effective risk management of balance sheet ensuing that balance sheet accounts with no movement are monitored and escalated to relevant heads of department.
- Effective provision process ensuring that debtors (receivables) loans are adequately provided for in line with the BU’s Provision for Doubtful Debts Policy while also ensuring:
- that arrear balances are appropriately escalated in terms of the Credit Committee’s Terms of Reference.
- the ECL process is managed appropriately with the BIMS Team.
Working Capital and Cash flow forecast
- Manage working capital and cash flow forecast for BU and reporting to the centre
- Support Head: Finance Operations in providing commentary and insights on working capital ratios and cash flow projection requirements for BU.
- Champion process efficiency through use working capital results and help business to improve process of receivables collection and timely payment of suppliers
- Monitoring of cash flow forecast against the actual cash flows and communicate results of cash flow analysis to the relevant heads of departments and
Taxation
- Support Head: Finance Operations in managing the Life Solutions BU’s VAT and Employees’ Tax considerations with both Group Tax and SARS where appropriate.
Planning and support of the year-end audit process
- Compilation of the Life Solutions BU’s consolidation packs for all four life licences
- Assist auditors in their audit by providing explanations/ supporting document
- Ad hoc attendance at business meetings (as requested)
**Required Knowledge and Experience**:
Demonstrated experience in operating in a complex environment at a senior finance manager level
Financial services experience would be an advantage
Demonstrated experience in team management, building relations with senior management and driving change management
**Educational Requirements**:
- CA qualification or equivalent qualifications and experience
