**APPOINTMENT TO THE POST OF LECTURER IN THE SCHOOL OF LAW, COLLEGE OF LAW AND MANAGEMENT**

**STUDIES UNIVERSITY OF KWAZULU-NATAL, HOWARD COLLEGE CAMPUS.**

I have the pleasure of informing you that your appointment to the above-mentioned position has

been approved, and you are required to assume duty no later than **01 July 2023.**

**1. NATURE OF APPOINTMENT**

This is a permanent appointment and shall be regulated by the applicable University policies,

procedures, and protocols applicable to staff.

**2. REPORTING LINE**

In this position, you will report to Prof. Warren Freedman. He may be contacted by telephone

responsibilities, and line management reporting may change as a result of University

sanctioned operational requirements.

**3. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF YOUR EMPLOYMENT**

The University's Council-approved Conditions of Service applicable to your appointment are those

dated 01 January 2018 (attached hereto). The Conditions of Service are negotiated with

you also familiarise yourself with all Human Resources policies and procedures, which are available

on the Human Resources website as well as all other policies, procedures, and regulatory

documents applicable to your role.

3.1 This appointment is conditional upon positive verification being received by the University

and, to its satisfaction, from a duly authorised and accredited verification agency of its

choice, verifying that your qualifications are authentic and have been awarded to you. In

the event of this condition not being fulfilled, this contract of employment shall be of no

force and effect, and your employment shall terminate with immediate effect.

3.2 You are required to present all original degree and diploma certificates or certified copies

thereof to your allocated Benefits Officer who is Ms. Zonke Sithole, who may be contacted

to revoke its offer or terminate your employment. You are required to present the original

documents or certified copies for any subsequent degrees or diplomas obtained in the

course of your employment with the University.

3.3 You are required to treat as confidential any information you may acquire during your

service. In accepting this appointment, you agree to treat any work-related information with

the strictest of confidence and undertake not to divulge any confidential information to

anyone or use such information in a manner that is inappropriate.

3.4 You warrant that you are not under any restraint of trade or confidentiality agreement that

prohibits your employment with the University. Engagement or participation in any

employment of any kind during working hours is strictly prohibited unless approval is obtained

for private remuneration work. Breach of this condition could lead to dismissal.

3.5 Should it be revealed at any time after commencement of employment that you have

failed or neglected to inform the employer of any circumstance or information relating to

your personal circumstances, state of health, criminal record, and/or qualifications, which

may have affected, in any way the University's decision to employ or not to employ you,

then this contract shall immediately be rendered null and void and shall be of no force and

effect.

3.6 Should you abscond or resign from the employ of the University as a direct result of, or for the

purpose of avoiding disciplinary action for serious (dismissible) misconduct, you may be

placed on the University's persona non-grata records, which prohibits further re-employment

with the University, at its discretion.

**4. RETIREMENT AND DISABILITY FUNDS**

Membership of the University of KwaZulu-Natal Retirement Fund and Disability Fund (UKZNRF) is

compulsory at the time of appointment, and you hereby agree to be bound by its rules. Monthly

contributions will be made from your TCE package and paid to the Fund as per the rules.
