The Department of Geriatrics is seeking dynamic and experienced individuals to fill the position

of Research Nurse for the for the Fractures in Sub-Saharan Africa: Epidemiology, economic

impact, and ethnography study (FRACTURES E3). The study, a collaboration between the

Wellcome Trust Grant and the University of KwaZulu-Natal will enroll 1008 participants in Vulindlela

using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping. The incumbent will be based at CAPRISA

Vulindlela Clinical Research Site. **Preference will be given to residents of Vulindlela**

study participants, collecting informed consent forms, completing a standardized questionnaire,

performing a structured examination and obtaining biological samples from study participants

using standard procedures. They will be responsible for collecting adequate samples so that they

can be analyzed in the laboratory, whilst ensuring no harm comes to the patient.
- Implement sound housekeeping procedure and work effectively with others as a

member of a team to ensure a safe working environment
- Ensure safe keeping of all electronic devices at all times
- Observe and follow all safety protocols including Covid-19 related protocols

**Minimum Requirements**:

- Registration in relevant discipline with HPCSA/SANC
- Prior experience working with patients in a healthcare setting
- Prior experience in taking informed consent and enrolling participants into research

studies
- Experience in HIV counselling
- 2 years’ experience in clinical research studies
- 2 years’ experience in a phlebotomy role with a certificate to practice phlebotomy.
- Prior training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Experience with data entry on a tablet device
- Own transport and a valid Driver’s License

**Essential Requirements**:

- Excellent communication skills
- Fluent in English and Zulu
- Able to operate online software on a tablet device
- Good listening and observational skills
- Good time management skills
