Our client is a leading EPCM who require a Project Cost Controller to join their team. They will be providing support to the Project Manager to ensure that the project is run well and is tracked in order to ensure that it is completed on time, within budget, with no unanticipated variances in costs. Projects assigned to the Controller from time to time may consist of measurable work (EPCM) or fixed price (LSTK) projects and studies (which may be small through to large in size and complexity), and may also include work on proposals and tenders (with current and potential customers)

**Responsibilities**:
**Project planning**:

- Reviewing contracts and understanding all applicable terms.
- Agreement on budget set-up with Project Managers, such as WBS structures; codes.
- Preparing resource assignment, rates, budgeted hours.
- Setting up billing rules.

**Budget control, commitment and order tracking**:

- Monitor commitments (open orders).
- Track contingencies (budgeted, used, available).
- Manage budget changes when required, split between budget shifts, variation orders, scope changes.

**Transaction processing**:

- Ensure accurate project billings in line with contracts.
- Ensure all applicable amounts are charged to the project and recovered when applicable.
- Prepare payment certificates, billing schedules.
- Ensure accurate processing of all types of project costs: prepares, reviews, confirms all transactions on project before being submitted to the Project Manager for approval: Time cards, Capital costs, Disbursements, Expense claims

**Reconciliations and Reports**
- Prepare/check (as applicable) project costing reports, approved by the Project Manager / Project Engineer as applicable:

- Client PTD report
- Budget v Actual, in both units and values
- Project cost report
- Sub-Contract Commitment Register

**Maintains supporting documentation, ensures accurate accounting and financial reporting on the project**:

- Project trial balances
- Bank reconciliations
- General ledger reconciliations
- VAT reconciliations and submissions
- Reports (internal and external)
- Forecasts

**Cash flow management**:

- Track the cash flow on projects
- Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on collections and resolve queries
- Monitor payment terms, retentions, guarantees
- Ensure discounts are managed and claimed and payments are made on time
- Prepare creditors and payment reconciliations

**Forecasts and profitability management**:

- Perform variance analysis on actuals, identify causes/drivers, such as price, quantity, mix, exchange rate variances
- Work with Project Managers to prepare profitability reports
- Track challenges, adjusts forecasts (estimates to complete, estimates at completion)
- Identify corrective action required.
- Prepare CCS (Cost Control Summary) Reports and provide information to/works with Project Managers to prepare EAC (Estimate at Completion) Reports for review and approval.

**Financial management**:

- Ensure all paperwork is correct and complies with relevant legislation.
- Understand the contract and track/ensure compliance with the terms.
- Report in multiple currencies, track exchange rates (controlling, accounting and reporting).
- Manage/monitor financial risk and compliance as applicable to the project:

- VAT
- Customs duties
- Withholding taxes
- Income taxes
- Retentions
- Guarantees, bonds
- Trade and settlement discounts
- Exchange control
- Forward contracts

**Requirements**:Qualification and Skill**_
- **
- Bachelor Degree in Financial Accounting, Accounting Sciences or Management Accounting
- Cost Accounting qualification, such as CMA or CIMA advantageous
- 5 years’ experience in an appropriate role and industry, such as engineering, mining
- Experience with both LSTK and EPCM projects
- Exposure to projects outside South Africa
- Has worked in multiple currency environments
- Internal controls - understands the concept and applies sound methods
- Skilled in Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, or Syspro
- Exposure to project management software, such as Microsoft Project, Primavera
