_Job Summary:_

This position can be based in Eastern & Southern Africa including but not limited to Kenya, Uganda, South Africa.
- Strategic Leadership:_
- Manages and oversees the Business Planning and Development efforts for an assigned region.
- Works with leaders, staff and corporate departments to gather and disseminate market intelligence.
- Develops, manages, and strengthen ongoing business development relationships with adverse group of funders and partners in the region that represents a portfolio of sectors.
- Portfolio Development:_
- Leads or supports partnership negotiation and teaming agreement development with institutional partners in the region.
- Facilitates decisions on captaincy for new bids and proposals as needed.
- Ensures development of funding proposals that meet the highest quality standards by providing detailed, critical review of solicitations.
- Ensures that submissions are complete and responsive to the requirements of the solicitation.
- Identify and support the development, maintenance and expansion of partnerships with funders, clients and other strategic collaborators.
- Critically analyzes potential funding opportunities, disseminates opportunity information, and provides informed, strategic bidding recommendations and revenue forecasting support.
- Supports the overall development and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan and coordinates with headquarter-based Business Development colleagues to support country and regional level strategic planning.
- Develops, manages and monitors systems and processes to ensure the overall success and efficiency of the organization’s Business Development efforts in the region.
- Monitors and coordinates other business development activities within and across units as needed and manages proposal development and submission.
- Management/Supervision:_
- Supports performance management and professional development of direct reports, including ongoing feedback, coaching, and career support.
- Ability to develop and guide strategic analysis of market dynamics and emerging trends, including engagement models aimed at private sector engagement and inclusive economic development
- Leads the development and implementation of capacity building plans and resource mobilization to strengthen business development capabilities and competencies in the region.
- Develops and coordinates learning and training in business development and proposal development for staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Ensures confidentiality and integrity of sensitive information.
- Applied Knowledge & Skills:_
- Knowledge of the challenges facing the region, including one or more key programmatic or technical area of the organization’s multi-sector strategic focus.
- Extensive knowledge of funding procedures and requirements of US Government agencies, key foundations, and other international donors.
- Strong demonstrated analytical skills in landscape or market analysis, assessment of business opportunities, competitor analysis and reviewing and interpreting RFAs/RFPs.
- Excellent diplomatic skills and demonstrated success in facilitating negotiations with partner organizations and donors.
- Demonstrated experience in business development and its process, including business planning, proposal development, and partnership development.
- Demonstrated success soliciting and securing grant and contact awards from government, foundation, and/or private donors.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple concurrent assignments with competing priorities and challenging deadlines.
- External experience in participating in and facilitating multidisciplinary teams in competitive bidding processes, including motivating team members, meeting deadlines and producing quality proposals.
- Ability to think strategically and demonstrate strong leadership skills in a fast-paced, demanding environment.

- Problems encountered are often complex, broad in scope, and implications are often unprecedented with no clear resolution.
- Must be able to provide accurate, expert level advice to reach outcomes that will enable achievement of overall department and organization goals.
- Supervision Given/Received:_
- Supervises regional Business Planning and Development staff members and consultants to ensure development of quality funding proposals, tracking and funding opportunities, thorough business development-related research, and critical analyses of funding opportunities and the competitive environment.
- Manages multi-disciplinary teams of staff, consultants, and project partners towards shared goals and objectives.
- Typically reports to the Business Unit/Department/Regional Director.
