**Purpose of the post**:
To support the effective implementation of the department’s communication strategies and to enhance the image of the department through media liaison.

**Key performance areas**:
**Customize media liaison services to journalists to suit each medium**:
Assist with the coordination of engagement activities with media organisations to promote the department’s programmes, projects, and events.

Maintain and update the media database for the distribution and publication of media statements,

and media invites.

Assist in organising meeting logistics to conduct media briefings and media engagements.

Facilitate liaison with communication officials in other government departments, research institutions,

and science council about the department’s opportunities.

Request information for the development of communication strategies, advisories, and press releases.

Develop and manage WhatsApp / Telegram group for media.

**Media Monitoring of coverage pertaining to the department and the National System of Innovation**:
Distribution of daily and weekly media clippings to all relevant the department’s staff members.

Compilation of thematic media monitoring reports.

Request information from service provider for data on Media Analysis for the development of monthly and quarterly media monitoring reports.

Process payments to service providers and maintain the relationship between the department and the media monitoring service provider.

**External Publication and Communication**:
Assist in the development of material and messaging for distribution to external users.

Write articles of the department’s activities for publication.

Facilitate the collection and distribution of information on traditional and new platforms (Facebook,

X, WhatsApp etc) as and when required.

Liaise with Community radio stations in securing interview slots to profile the work of the Department

and National System of Innovation.

Ensure photography needs are met for internal and external requirements.

**Provide media liaison assistance with Special Projects**:
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders in drafting media plans for special events or

projects.

Coordinate hosting of live radio and television broadcasts to promote flagship projects of the department’s entities.

Provide onsite media liaison and support during the department’s exhibitions and events.

Provide logístical and administrative support and ensure internal controls are implemented,

and adhered to.

Assist with organising of media webinars and virtual events.

**Competencies, Knowledge, and skills**:
Knowledge and understanding of Government communication.

Project Management in terms of planning and meeting deadlines.

Good command of official South African languages including English and another language.

Knowledge of Public Financial Management Act, Public Service Regulations.

Knowledge of Public Access to Information Act.

Communication skills.

Planning, organising and administrative skills.

Project planning and management principles.

Computer skills.

Good communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.

Team Player, Diplomacy, Protocol.

Minimum qualifications and experience requirements:
**NQF level 6** or higher qualification in Media studies / Communication / Journalism / Business Communication.

2 years’ experience in media liaison and media monitoring.
