Main purpose of the job: The Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) project requires the services of one cluster manager for Mthatha cluster, who will be responsible for providing strategic project guidance, overseeing and managing the Wits RHI Project PrEP teams at designated project sites. Responsibilities include site level programme management, mentoring and coaching for both clinical and non-clinical staff, stakeholder engagement and relationship building (district, sub-district, community, and CBOs), clinical service delivery, administration, staff management, quality improvement, and skills transfer.

Location: Mthatha, Eastern Cape

Key performance areas:

  1. Communicate, promote, and support implementation of Project PrEP at the district, sub-district, and facility levels.
  2. Provide programme implementation guidance and support to site level team members to ensure delivery of program activities according to timelines and budgets.
  3. Conduct regular meetings with site level team to ensure outputs are delivered and to review progress on implementation plan.
  4. Review cluster implementation plans for effective implementation of the program.
  5. Identify the needs of the program at a site level and obtain resources required.
  6. Coordinate and troubleshoot all programme related activities including but not limited to provision of all SRH services to clients when a nurse responsible is not available.
  7. Oversee the roll out of training plan including conducting Training of trainers.
  8. Monitor the delivery and quality of training at all levels.
  9. Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, feedback, and support to the team.
  10. Evaluate the effectiveness of training by obtaining feedback from stakeholders and/or relevant assessments.
  11. Support activities that promote and advocate for adolescent and youth friendly service (AYFS) or youth zones at health facility and community level.
  12. Maintain close communication with the M&E team to ensure adequate and regular reporting and documenting lessons learned and success stories.
  13. Develop and effectively manage relationships with relevant Wits RHI structures and external stakeholders.
  14. Supervise and manage line reporting (clinical mentor, operation coordinator, and training officer) in keeping with Wits RHI policies and procedures.
  15. Attend to all staffing requirements and administration at a district level.
  16. Facilitate performance assessments and take necessary corrective action for substandard performance.
  17. Promote harmony, teamwork, and sharing of information.
  18. Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrate effective self-management.

Required minimum education and training:

  1. Relevant Nursing Degree with education qualification.
  2. Certified clinical (NIMART, APC/PC and HTS) mentor.
  3. Dispensing License.
  4. Proven Facilitation skills.
  5. Valid SA drivers license.
  6. Understanding of clinical research.

Required minimum work experience:

  1. 10+ years experience in public health and HIV Prevention and Management.
  2. 5 years clinical training experience (HIV/TB/SRH).
  3. 5 years clinical mentoring experience and experience in assessing learners.
  4. 10 years staff management experience.
  5. 5 years strategic stakeholder engagement and relationship management.

Professional body registration: South African Nursing Council

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

  1. Certification in HIV Management.
  2. Sound technical knowledge on HIV Prevention strategies.
  3. Qualification or experience in training, mentoring, project management, and quality improvement methodologies.
  4. Knowledge of clinical systems and data management.
  5. Understanding of the challenges facing young people in the health context.
  6. Experience working with donor funded programmes and reporting requirements.
  7. Strong organizational skills with an accurate approach to work, attention to detail.
  8. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  9. Self-motivated, able to work independently and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
