A Senior Manager role has become available at Mazars in South Africa.


This role will offer the opportunity to join our dynamic Tax Consulting team at a senior level, based in either our Cape Town or Johannesburg office.


What is your purpose?


To lead the national indirect tax practice with support from the tax partners; to independently acquire and lead assignments in a specialised area of tax; and to carry out research relating to a variety of tax issues (covering the full spectrum of taxes).


You will compile appropriate reports/opinions/letters and other document as well as review reports/opinions/letters and other documents prepared by junior team members.

You will liaise with clients, their advisors and SARS where appropriate and actively engage in business development opportunities to existing and potential clients.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Focus and operational group leader responsible for the growth and development of the national indirect tax practice with support from the tax consulting partners
  • Management:
  • Project management of larger complex assignments
  • Assist with departmental budgets
  • Delegate assignments
  • Review of project deliverables
  • Responsibility for billings and timing thereof
  • Rolemodelling the organizational culture and instil culture in others
  • Strategic orientation
  • Involvement in key business development initiatives with other senior tax team members, and identify crossselling opportunities
  • Performance management of team
  • Onthejob training, coaching, and guidance
  • Researching
  • Consulting and tax advice
  • Tax calculations and reconciliations
  • Tax administration and dispute resolution
  • Budget management in respect of client engagements
  • Prepare proposal documents/ letters of engagement
  • Manage individual productivity
  • Articles, other client communication and marketing material
  • Training & development

Minimum Requirements:

  • CA(SA) and/or completed SAICA articles
  • Accounting/Legal/Economics degree plus post graduate tax qualification
  • Minimum of 5 years' indirect tax consulting experience as a client
- facing consultant in a professional services environment

  • Financial services industry tax consulting experience will be advantageous
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office package)
  • Excellent writing and reporting skills
  • Ability to analyse and interpret data and situations
  • Ability to gather information and solve problems
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the team
  • Excellent relating and networking skills
  • Ability to plan and organise activities
