This position reports to the International & 4 PL Supply Chain Manager

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage the customs and corporate compliance across the company and ensuring that all the processes are correctly adhered to in order to deliver the highest level of internal and external client satisfaction.
  • You will be responsible to strengthen your team and support them to evaluate processes and procedures in the respective departments in the company including the external service providers who play a key role in the logistics and supply chain for importing and exporting.
  • Identify the process downfalls, create, and resolve as required, and meet the strategic goals and costsaving initiatives.
  • Manage customs and trade compliance within the company and ensure that all regulations and procedures are implemented and understood
  • Ensure all role player's compliance with international supply chain and customs clearing regulations
  • Develop and manage standard operating procedures to ensure that internal and external customers comply with procedures and changes that may take place
  • Lead, coach, develop, and train employees within the customs and other contributing departments to optimize processes and procedures for customs clearing and tariffing compliance
  • Ensure regulatory requirements are adhered to (licenses, certificates etc.)
  • Ensure that the day to day customs clearances for both Import and Export are carried out timeously, correctly, and as per agreed procedures to avoid any penalties from the Department of Customs and Excise, other Government Agencies as well as third party suppliers
  • Coordinate internal audits on operational processes, files, and systems, in alignment with the required customs clearing regulations
  • Manage operational requirements by ensuring the effective running and coordination of the customs and other roleplayers within the business
  • Determine the correct Customs tariff classifications internally and externally
  • Manage finances by investigating and implementing ways in which to reduce costs

Attributes required:

  • Competency in MS Office packages and other database software.
  • Be presentable and have the ability to interact with internal & external stakeholders at all levels.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification related to operations, supply chain, logistics, or similar.
  • 46 years of management experience in a customs and operations related role (preferably in the Air & Sea Imports, Transportation or Logistics Industry).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within the Clearance environment and embedded knowledge of the Customs Act.
  • Allaround solid experience in freight forwarding and clearing, with an established network of contacts within the customs and regulatory environment.
  • Sound knowledge of Bond stores, rebates, customs tariffs, and degroup licenses.
  • Experience in clearing programs and project management.
  • Export experience will be beneficial.
