Head Office Buyer (RETAIL GARDEN CENTRE)


Multi Award Winning Nursery-Stodels is looking for a dynamic
Head Office Buyer who will be responsible for leading the Company forward in securing quality suppliers of products, covering price, delivery and quality targets.

The position will report to the Head of the Buying

Department and will be based at our Head Office in
Bellville.

Main Duties:

  • Be responsible for direct buying with assigned suppliers and negotiating with them based on price, quality and quantity.
  • Be responsible for purchasing all specials related to the Head Office annual plan. Purchase these daily or weekly according to the stock model, or planned event per branch.
  • Be responsible to negotiate and purchase monthly opportunistic specials.
  • Be responsible to liaise with branches on planned purchases for the month; both informing them of the plan and asking them for input and recommendations.
  • Be responsible for effective follow up on orders placed and keeping branches informed on exceptions.
  • Be responsible to plan and communicate supplier logístical schedule to the Buying Administrators.
  • Be responsible to follow up on the Annual special plan with each supplier one month in advance and to report any exceptions to the Head of Department.
  • Be responsible to prepare recommendations on price increases per supplier as per budgeted category mark up margins.
  • Adhere to purchasing budget and advise branches when limits are being reached.
  • Be responsible to prepare annual planner information per supplier for the Head of Department.
  • Be responsible to prepare monthly special sheets by the deadline date each month and inform Head of Department when done.
  • Be responsible to update the advertising planners, actual figures each week after advert run.
  • Be responsible to create all new stock items on the system.
  • Be prepared to visit branches and suppliers as determined by you or the Head of Department.
  • Complete price comparisons on a regular basis.
  • Prepare weekly sales analysis for branches as determined by the Head of Department.

Requirements:

  • Buying experience (35 years)
  • Horticultural or Nursery experience (Advantageous)
  • Minimum of matric or equivalent
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills
  • High level of self motivation
  • Being able to multi task
- "Hands on" approach to all tasks

  • Ability to take a proactive approach to overcome challenges and achieve results
  • Versatile, tenacious and people orientated
  • Result orientated and confident
  • Competent in use of Microsoft Office (Excel intermediate &Word) and SAP (advantageous)
  • Own transport & valid drivers license
  • Must reside in or around the Area
