IT Desktop Support Specialist

Location: Germiston

Salary: R12 000 – R16 000CTC

 

Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated IT Desktop Support Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in desktop support, as well as experience in cabling, networks, and server management. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of our IT infrastructure, providing support to our employees, and maintaining the integrity of our systems.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Desktop Support:

Provide technical assistance and support for incoming queries and issues related to computer systems, software, and hardware.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues, both remotely and onsite.

Install, modify, and repair computer hardware and software.

Set up new workstations, ensuring proper configuration and connectivity.

  1. Network and Cabling:

Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and cabling.

Ensure optimal network performance by troubleshooting and resolving issues.

Maintain network documentation and perform regular network assessments.

  1. Server Management:

Support the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers, including file, print, and application servers.

Monitor server performance, ensure backups are completed, and troubleshoot issues as needed.

Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.

  1. IT Security:

Implement and maintain security protocols to protect the company's data and systems.

Monitor for security breaches and respond to incidents.

Educate staff on security best practices and assist in the implementation of security policies.

  1. Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate and up to date documentation of IT processes, procedures, and infrastructure.

Provide regular reports on system performance, incidents, and resolutions.

Qualifications:

Associate or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Proven experience in desktop support, network management, and server maintenance.

Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.

Familiarity with network protocols, cabling standards, and IT infrastructure.

Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to work independently.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft Certified Professional) are a plus.
