Head of Insurance Strategy and Business Development

This role leads the insurance strategy and business development function for Easypay Insurance within the Consumer business. It is accountable for shaping the long-term insurance portfolio, driving distribution growth, and ensuring sustainable profitability. A core mandate is advancing financial inclusion through accessible and relevant insurance solutions designed for underserved and low-income segments that form the core customer base of Easypay Insurance. The role requires strong strategic leadership, deep long-term insurance expertise, and the capability to build an integrated ecosystem of distribution channels and partnerships across communities, corporate clients, and internal Lesaka businesses.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy Development
- Develop and implement the insurance strategy for Easypay Insurance, covering product positioning, market expansion, and distribution.
- Analyse market trends, competitor activities, and customer insights to identify new growth opportunities.
- Lead innovation across product design, customer engagement, and go-to-market models.
- Monitor regulatory and environmental developments and evaluate their implications for Easypay Insurance's strategic direction.
Product Management
- Oversee the full product lifecycle for Easypay Insurance offerings, including development, pricing, refinement, and performance analysis.
- Ensure all products comply with FAIS and long-term insurance regulatory requirements and deliver customer value.
- Monitor product profitability, claims experience, and customer feedback to drive continuous improvement.
- Maintain strong governance, documentation, and product risk management processes.
Business Development, Partnerships, and Relationship Management
- Drive business development initiatives to expand distribution and increase Easypay Insurance's market penetration.
- Build and manage strategic partnerships with community organisations, Lesaka group companies, and corporate clients.
- Lead channel diversification, including digital, mobile, agent, and community-based channels.
- Oversee marketing and outreach activities aimed at boosting awareness and uptake of Easypay Insurance products.
- Build strong relationships across the Lesaka group to identify synergies, enhance distribution reach, and unlock new product opportunities.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- Relevant bachelor's degree and/or postgraduate qualification.
- Minimum 10 years of product and business development experience in long-term insurance, including at least 5 years in senior leadership.
- Completed RE1 and RE5.

- Executive-level experience in contributing to business strategy, plans, and policies.
- Demonstrated success managing complex stakeholder relationships, including internal executives, corporate clients, and community leaders.
