About the Role
We're looking for a detail-oriented Accountant/Bookkeeper to take ownership of our end-to-end booking function and support the wider finance team with accurate, timely accounting. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys structure, process, and getting things right the first time. You'll work closely with operations, finance leadership, and external stakeholders to keep everything running smoothly.
*Note that this is a 3-month contract role with the possibility of becoming permanent.*
Key Responsibilities
Bookings & Revenue
- Oversee the full booking function (invoices, credit notes, adjustments, recurring billing).
- Ensure accuracy of client billings and resolve any discrepancies proactively.
- Track revenue, deferred income, and ensure correct allocation each month.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process supplier invoices, staff claims, and expense reports.
- Manage AR follow-ups, reconcile customer accounts, and maintain clean ageing reports.
Financial Accounting
- Prepare monthly journals (accruals, prepayments, reclasses).
- Reconcile key balance sheet accounts including bank, AR, AP, VAT, and payroll.
- Assist with month-end close and deliverables to the Finance Manager.
Compliance & Controls
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with internal controls.
- Support audit requests and assist in preparing documentation.
- Assist with VAT returns and statutory submissions.
Process & Systems
- Identify gaps in existing processes and suggest improvements.
- Work comfortably across cloud accounting systems and integrated apps.
Requirements
- AVAILABLE TO START IMMEDIATELY (NOVEMBER OR DECEMBER 2025)
- 1–3+ years post-articles / post-training experience (SAIPA or AGA)
- Strong practical accounting knowledge (journals, reconciliations, month-end).
- Proficient in Sage, QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books, Odoo, or QuickBooks (experience in more than one advantageous).
- Solid Excel/Google Sheets skills (lookups, pivot tables, data clean-ups).
- High attention to detail with a habit of double-checking your own work.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both finance and non-finance teams.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing environment.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract, Permanent
Contract length: 3 months
Pay: R10 000,00 - R20 000,00 per month
