Forklift Operator

**Job Summary**

As a Forklift Operator, you will need to ensure trucks is either loaded or off loaded timeously and carefully. Inspection, cleaning, repair and shrouding of stock. Inspection and fueling of forklifts and other machinery. Completion of relevant documentation.

**Main Job Functions**

**1. **Operators will receive their instructions from the team leader. These instructions are usually communicated to them in writing on a picking slip, put away slip or bin to bin movements slip.

**2.** Ensure trucks is either loaded or off loaded timeously and carefully.

**3. **At the beginning of each shift Operators are to ensure that his forklift is cleaned. No cluttering of packets, newspaper, cool drink bottles, lunch boxes etc. will be permitted in the forklift cabin.

**4. **Ensure that the forklift daily inspections are done, and the forklift check sheets are completed accordingly and handed to the Shift Controller. All forklift defects must be highlighted and discussed with the Shift Controller.

**5. **You are responsible to ensure that your area of working is always clean and tidy. After the loading of each truck, ensure that no pallets are left lying around.

**6.** All Health and Safety requirements are adhered to.

**7.** In the case of dispatching of vehicles, the following will apply:

- The operator to pick stock from designated bin as reflected on the picking slips and place pallets in the loading area for quality checks to be completed by the Team Leader and then Team Leader will scan the pallets to a load bin.
- Once pallets have been passed for quality checks then only will the quality audit sticker be placed on pallets before loading of truck commences.
- The loading process will begin at the first trailer by one forklift placing pallets on the left side while the other forklift places pallets on right side of the trailer. This process will continue until the first trailer is complete and very same process will begin and end on the second trailer.
- At all times operators are to ensure that they use the forklift side shift when loading and placing of pallets onto the truck to avoid damage to shrouds.
- To avoid slat damages operators to take extra precaution when entering the pallet with their forks.
- All rejected pallets to be moved from the loading area and placed in the designated damage bin. These instructions will be given by the Team Leader.
- The Team Leader and operator must complete a visual inspection of pallets on the truck
- Any damages detected must be reported immediately to the Shift Controllers.
- The off-loading process will begin at the rear of the front trailer by one forklift uplifting pallets on the left and the other forklift uplifting pallets on the right side of the trailer. This process will continue onto the second trailer.
- Operators are to ensure they use the forklift side shifts to minimize damage to shroud
- To avoid slat damages operators to take extra precaution when entering the pallet with their forks.
- The team leaders must scan the pallets and receive via SAP.
- Pallets are to be carefully uplifted from the truck and placed on the floor.
- The quality check process will be conducted on the floor and only the good pallets will be moved to designated bin stipulated on the Put-away slip.
- All rejected pallets will be moved to the designated damage bin.
